Bought as All-Season tires since the OEMs were worn and unsafe in the current snow, but I don't want to change out for summer. I needed a tire that will support my car's acceleration, handling, and top speed while providing acceptable snow traction and treadlife value for the dollar. These are THE exact fit for the bill. Dry handling is more predictable near limits than the stock RE92As, snow handling is confidence-inspiring and TRC handles any stepping out. Ride quality is quiet and comfy, though a little "thumpy" over road snakes and seams. Treadlife warranty doesn't have small print about mismatched section size, so I'm not worried about them not making it to their promised 50K, I'd be happy to get a new set for a discount/free. Makes owning a powerful RWD car in Michigan a lot more sane.

This was a great tire - for the 10K+ miles they lasted before the "chunking" started to occur (http://bit.ly/1asieNs) on the front two. Aside from that minor flaw, these tires worked great on a 3,800lb, '04 Volvo V70R 300HP AWD wagon. Now I realize the weight and handling of the car beats up front tires pretty good, but for spending almost a G on a set, I'd really want them to last more than 10K. Regardless, Michelin recognizes the issue and is somewhat receptive to their customer needs. So rather than replace them at no cost, they pro-rate how much you've driven on the them and discount a replacement set of the Sport 3's. Pretty good deal. So now I have the non-chunking Sport 3's on the wagon and we'll see how they last and perform.

Tires were purchased to maintain the handling potential of the car. The tires are not smooth, that said, the suspension of the car contributes to the roughness of the ride. I am perfectly satisfied with the ride and expect such a ride with the car and the superior handling tires. I purchased the tires after they were discounted after a newer model was introduced. I did not need state of the art performance tires and the discounted price allowed me to purchase what I consider a high end performance tire. I would buy these tires again (for the discounted price). I no longer autocross but expect my car to be auto cross capable and these Bridgestone's provide the capability.

Great Grip at Great Pricing - Closeout Pricing on Hankook Ventus R-S3

Friday, August 9, 2013 by Cy Chowattukunnel

Although Extreme Performance Summer tires have stepped up their game, the old stalwarts of the category still provide great dry grip for your fun car. Like all Extreme Performance Summer tires, the Hankook R-S3 emphasizes dry grip and steering response at the expense of wear, ride compliance and tread noise. It's a great tire for spirited drivers. The R-S3 has always provided a great mix of dry performance and value. Now, closeout pricing in select sizes has made a great deal even better.

Do you have a PCA lapping day coming up for your 911? 285/35ZR18 tires have been marked down to $159*, 235/35ZR19s to $182 and 305/30ZR19s to $229*. Did you just pick up a Nissan 370Z? The 225/40ZR19 is currently available for $149* and the 245/40ZR19 for $159*.

You may also notice that some R-S3 tire specs show a 140 UTQG Treadwear rating, where others are now 200 rated. When the Ventus R-S3 was introduced in the spring of 2009, Hankook assigned the 140 rating to match the UTQG Treadwear rating required by existing competition rules. However, subsequent Hankook wear data revealed the tire line provided equivalent wear to its predecessor (Ventus R-S2) and earned the same 200 Treadwear rating. This has also been supported by Tire Rack survey results and customer feedback that indicate Ventus R-S3 tires provide equivalent wear to other tires already featuring similar UTQG Treadwear ratings. Where there was no change in compound or internal construction, some of the 140 rated tires are now discounted a little to help clear them out.

Initial Review, 2,000 Miles on Tires
April 13, 2013

I have had these tires now for about 2 months and replaced the Dunlop Sport Max RFT that came with the car and were showing too much wear for 15K miles. The truck is for the wife and baby so the Sport Max was a bit of overkill, but what a difference these tires have made. Quiet and smooth and stick like glue. We have been having our spring rains, toad chokers, and have had lots of standing water on the road several times already this year, no problem, goes straight through. I am very impressed and will definately use these tires again, in 50K miles it looks like.
The delivery process to the installation facility was as smooth as it could have been. The installers called when the tires arrived and I just made my appointment, stopped by and drove away a little bit later, very nice and very reasonable. A local "discount" tire company came within $350 installed out the door. Tire Rack is great.
I will follow up as I put more miles on these beauties.

What Does a Bubble in the Sidewall Mean?

Friday, May 31, 2013 by Doc Horvath

Both tire and auto manufacturers recommend frequently checking your tires for signs of irregular wear or any other damage that could cause a dangerous tire failure. While signs of shallow cracking on the sidewall rubber or minor irregular wear are of concern, the presence of a bubble in the tire sidewall is a major safety concern that needs to be addressed immediately. A bubble in the sidewall of the tire indicates that the inner liner has been damaged to the point that it's allowing air to escape. Also, only the thin (nylon or polyester) sidewall plies are keeping the tire from a blowout.

Bubbles or bulges in the sidewall are normally the result of the tire's inner liner being damaged from an impact that creates a small hole or tear and compromises the strength of the sidewall plies. In most cases, the impact that caused the damage was not severe enough to be noticed by the driver, yet it was strong enough to damage the tire. Impacts with curbs, potholes, railroad crossings or debris in the road are the most common culprits. On occasion, a sidewall bubble can be caused not by an impact, but a structural failure of the tire. In these limited occurrences, the tire can be replaced with a prorated discount or refunded by the tire manufacturer's warranty. Regardless of the cause of the damage, a bulge in the sidewall is a blowout waiting to happen at any moment and needs to be addressed.

An authorized distributor of the tire can inspect the tire for possible damage that would be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. You can also call the tire manufacturer directly or contact us for assistance with your Tire Rack order. Our Recommended Installers are also able to assist with the evaluation of a tire.

For more information on tire damage, read "Sidewall Indentations, Undulations and Protrusions."

These tires are way better than OEM factory set in almost every way possible. When new, within the first 1000 miles of purchase, I took a long road trip from AZ to WA and back. These tires performed very well on this 3000 mile road trip, on forest service roads, city roads, highways, interstates and at one point a rock quarry road. Since then, I’ve put on almost 40K miles, and these tires are still very good. Road noise is great, wear has been excellent, and other than some deep mud, I’ve always felt in control of my truck in all the weather conditions these tires have seen.
I got these tires on discount at the time of purchase; I’m waiting and hoping they go back on sale or that I can find them cheaper than they currently are. I consider these tires at the edge of A/T, being a little more street than off-road. But for my driving, they’re off-road and all weather enough to do the job when needed. If I can get them a little cheaper, I’ll skin my truck in these as long as I own it.

I just had these tires installed, so far they are great. I haven't really had a chance to push the limits on them since, its still around 40 degrees and its a summer tire. The road noise is minimal, i would say the are just as quiet at the OEM Continental tires. They do have very stiff sidewalls which is nice, when it comes to steering input. If these tires keep up on how good they are doing, ill be mad i didn't purchase another set since they discounted them. If your still able to pick up a set from a tire dealer i would recommended getting them. Tire rack sent these to my door for $300, and i only had to pay $85 for mounting and balancing.

January 13, 2013

I initially purchaced 2 tires for the rear after the wife made an unepected trip into the ditch with only a dusting of snow. The discount tires I had replaced the oem ones with were sub-par when it came to snow and wet traction. With just the 2 tires on the rear, the traction and handling of my Trailblazer improved dramtically. Needless to say I was impressed. Before the next winter I purchased 2 more. The handling and ride improved 10 fold. My SUV rode and drove better than it did new. I have about about 50-60K on these tires now and my Car has 162000 miles and I'm still impressed with these tires. I've lost a little bit of wet traction, but it's insignificant compared to my previous tires. The front tires have worn a little choppy, but I haven't rotated like I should. Plus, I've never done any drivetrain and suspension repairs either. I'm expecting I'll get another 15-20,000 on this set.

These are the best tires I've ever owned. Not a good job, Firestone, but a great job!

My first set of Blizzaks, personally, but not my first experience. My father always puts them on his vehicles when the snow hits.

I have to drive a mountain pass (Johnsons Pass; Tooele County, Utah) and in the winter it can be downright treacherous! My co workers in their Civics, and other FWD cars could not make it up the pass to get home, and had to take a long detour through open range road.

I have even taken co-workers home because they were worried their car wouldn't make it safely up and over the pass.

All wheel drive definitely helps, but you cannot discount the fact that proper tire selection for the driving conditions is paramount.

I have yet to experience any significant wheel slip, and have not had to lock the rear diff since installing these tires (coming from Yoko S.drives). Absolutely great traction in snow/slush/ice/wet conditions.

Will be my tire of choice every winter!

September 24, 2012

Bought front 225/40-18 and back 255/35-18 2 years ago to replace the stock Bridgestone Potenza run flats that came with the car new. I like to take corners aggressively when able and take off briskly (the whole reason I bought the 335i - RWD) and the Conti's don't come close to the Potenzas which would hold a rounded corner at 50 mph while the Contis would slip and drift a bit making me less sure about aggressive driving with them. BUT the Potenzas absolutely ---- in snow - even just a dusting, needed replacement at 15k and were very expensive to replace. I bought the Continental Extreme Contact DWS for the price and the longevity as well as reviews in the snow. They do perform well enough in snow less than 4 inches, but you still slip and slide a bit. As far as longevity - I have gone about 16k miles now and need to replace the rears (prob due to my aggressive driving) and the fronts are close as well. So, overall - if price and all weather are your priorities, then go with these tires. But if you are looking for purely performance, look elsewhere - like the potenzas which you will pay top dollar for. After looking around once again, I am probably going to buy the Continental Extremes again for price and so I can feel a little more confident going over the mountain in questionable weather. I am currently trying to see if I am going to be able to get pro-rated discount on the Continentals since they came nowhere near the 60k warranty on the front and 30k warranty on the back tires - we will see where that ends up!

Initial Review, 500 Miles on Tires
June 09, 2012

Just purchased these tires to replace terribly hard and jarring OEM Dunlap run-flats. I have had them only a few days and will post again when I have 5k or 10k miles on them. So far, they have exceeded my expectations. They are quiet and smooth, but don't lose the road feel and responsiveness that I expect from my JCW Mini Copper S. They also really change the stance of the car and look incredible...they have an aggressive tread pattern which gives the car a great look when parked. Additionally, I must offer positive comments about the service at Tire Rack's South Bend operation. I live in the Chicago area so I drove my car over while on business. Kaitlin, a member of their sales staff greeted me at the counter, and assisted me all they way through my order and installation process. Another sales person, Keith, helped me purchase a dented/scratched aluminum wheel for a spare tire that they created out the best remaining run-flat...he found a great wheel and discounted it heavily so I ended up with a much better solution than purchasing a donut spare from MINI for $300. Oh, and while I waited, they served FRESH coffee and tea and hot chocolate, with 5 or 6 different creamer options. They have thought of everything...overall, a very satisfying experience. I wish that all consumer related companies cared as much about their customers as the great people at Tire Rack do!

I could not have been more surprised by these tires! I have only driven about 500 miles so far but I can honestly say I felt the difference immediately driving out of the parking lot after the tires were installed. It is also important to note that I am in the mountains of Western Carolina with my family and have a completely packed van with several weeks of stuff!

I would have never considered Hankook as I tend to stay with the manufactures installed tires because I figure they know what they are doing when the select a tire for a vehicle. It was only because I found these tires for a very big discount and I only have 6 months left on a lease that I decided to give them a try. It has made such a difference to the ride quality and sound that I may just keep my van until these tires run out!! My entire family noticed how soft and quiet the ride is now...including my 8 year old daughter!

If you are looking for a set of tires to replace your OEM's these should be on your short list. If you are looking for a softer more comfortable ride with less noise this tire should be on your list.

Like I mentioned I only have about 500 miles on these tires but with a fully loaded van with five people, all of our gear and driving in the mountains...I could not be more impressed with these tires!

Replaced the OEM Bridgestones with these tires. I have been amazed for three days at the difference these tires have made in reducing noise, softening the ride and overall handling for my CRV. While it's too early to say anything at all about tread life, everything other than that makes this tire a great option in the mid-range. Got a good discount at my mechanic on them, so the purchase was even better. I would definitely recommend these tires for someone with a small crossover, light truck or SUV.

I bought this set of tires bc of high review on tirerack. I was wrong. These tires are definitely not Ultra High Performance All Seasons. Think of these tires are good all seasons tires for Grandma and Grandpa old buick. As soon as I have these installed in my car, I noticed the ride was bumpy, handling sloppy and unstable on highway. My IS300 sporty characteristics was gone. Please do not make the same mistake like I did. Spend a little more and get a set of Micheline tires. After 11000 miles, there was very little wear and tear on these tires which indicated that the treadwear is very good. I took my car to Discount Tires and traded in my used tires for a new set of Micheline Super Sport. OMG...what I have been missing. My car driving like new, quite, smooth and very grippy. Don't believe me, try to buy the Continental DWS and you will regret.

I put these tires on to replace a mismatched set on my Mercedes. I had Bridgestone Protenza's on my car when I got it and got about 70,000 miles out of them and they were a great tire replaced 2 of them with Falken Fuzions and they were absolute junk. Discount prorated the tire and I got a full set of these tires. I have driven them in all kinds of weather conditions including some pretty bad snow last week during a blizzard where people were sliding all over these tires powered through on my car and only really had traction problems once and that was partially due to the depth of the snow. I am getting ready to buy a set for my wifes car solely on how well they did on my car in the snow. I didn't notice really any MPG improvement but I didn't see that as much more than a scam anyway. My only complaint is that these tires are soft in turns and make the car feel bigger than it is with the soft sidewalls. I usually run my pressure 45-50 psi on them and it seems to help. These tires do well at higher speeds also which kind of suprised me with the soft sidewall. Overall I am happy with this tire and will buy another set.

Initial Review, 2000 Miles on Tires
December 11, 2011

I have Nissan Altima 2.5 S with the 4 cylinder engine. Reason for buying the Hankook's Optimo H727 was the Consumer Reports very positive review, plus the fact that good tires for front wheel drive vehicles are hard to find. The stock Continental's wore out at 20K miles. Replaced with an off brand recommended by Discount Tire. Can't remember the name of the tire, but Bad mistake, had "radial Pull". Despite checking alignment for car, and etc, tire pulled car to right. Had to buy Continental's again to solve the issue. Well, 20K and they were shot again.

This time, read many reviews on Tire Rack.com, and Consumer Reports article. Hankook Optimo H727 highly recommended. Ordered and install the H727's. Found tire to be absolutely steady at any speed. Tire is quiet, very little road noise. Drove at hightway speeds 70+ mph and found excellent and stable. Wet weather handling also very good. Snow is OK, but this is not a snow tire.

Absolutely no "radial pull" (car pulling to right with other brands), and tire is rated at 100K miles. If I get 60K I'd be happy. Tire handling is amazing for 100K miles rated tire. Still getting the tires broken in, mileage is same as before. I have to say I am pleased with the tire. Handling is quick and stable, I don't drive in snow much but, it seems OK for light snow.

I will also, only buy tires if they are in the Consumer Reports TOP 10, and only if other drivers post POSITIVE reviews on sites like Tire Rack about the tire. All tires are NOT created equally, and all tires may NOT be right for your vehicle, especially front drive vehicles.

I'd recommend the purchase of the Hankook OPTIMO H727's to anyone.
