The spring/summer testing season is underway and the first tests include the new batch of Standard Touring All-Season tires. In this batch of tires, many of us were curious about the new Firestone Champion Fuel Fighter. The tire features a silica-enhanced, Long-Link Carbon all-season tread compound into a symmetric design focused on even wear and easy rotation to provide miles of quiet service. The Champion Fuel Fighter is Firestone's low-rolling resistance tire aimed at drivers of coupes, sedans, family minivans and crossover vehicles looking for year-round capability and long treadwear combined with fuel efficiency and a comfortable ride.
Word from Firestone was that the tire was very quiet and comfortable and able to absorb the imperfections on the road quite well. And my impressions were exactly that. On the road, it was very composed but not 'sedated', and steering while not aggressive as a performance tire didn't provide much lag. Plus, on the grueling test we performed at the track under wet conditions, the Firestone Champion Fuel Fighter proved to be fairly consistent around the curves and under braking. While it doesn't quite match the top-of-the-line tires in that category, the Firestone is a great addition to our Standard Touring All-Season portfolio.
Be sure to check back in the coming weeks for more updates to our test results!
