I have nothing but good things to say about this tire, I love it. I have a stock engine with a monster shift kit in my transmission. I had traction issues at first but after installing these tires, my baby grips to the road. I can put my foot to the floor at a standstill without any worries now. I have 285 35 18 on the rear of my Trans Am with some 275 40 17 continental extreme contact dw on the front. I wish I had all 4 PS A/S 3 on my TA. These puppies hold the road even during heavy rain.

Michelin again makes the tire to beat. I replaced a set of Continental DWS with these just because the tire noise had become unbearable. They were decent tires otherwise. But these are so much better in all respects that I have decided that it is Michelins only from now on. What a great product to compliment there other best of class tires. Impressive.

After 4 sets of DWS on the Honda Accord, I tried them on the VW JSW Tdi. I was commuting 100 miles/4 days and 60 mile/3 days in town with excellent results. The only thing I've noticed with these tires is flat spots (put of round) if not slightly over inflated - especially in extreme cold/heat. Would get a "thump thump" every rotation for the first few miles and it would gradually dissipate.

I replaced the OE Continentals at 83K miles. The PureContact set were immediately impressive - a great reduction in road noise form the tires, and impact harshness on sharp-edged bumps was greatly reduced.

Although they are LRR tires, fuel mileage suffered by 2 MPG over 2 tanks (1,200 mi), although this may be attributable that the new tires have a greater diameter, and that the MPG is comparable.

Overall, highly recommended as a replacement set for this vehicle.

With just 1,333 miles it is probably too early to make a profound judgement, but based on the limited milage I would have to say that currently I am very satisfied with the overall qualities of these tires. I did quit a lot of research on line and talking with tire folks at retail level before I made this tire choice.

I've now driven these tires across almost every hwy in Southern CO, as well as across KS, MO, AR, TX, and NM. Temps have ranged everywhere from -25 up to 115 and not a single problem. They aren't the quietest tire I've ever used, but the ride quality is very good and they are very predictable corning. My MPG has actually improved by 1-1.5 as they've worn down a bit.

On wet roads w/o standing water, they perform admirably, but I have noticed some splashiness when hitting shallow puddles and such. It's never alarming, just noticeable. Tread wear has been perfectly even with no flat spots developing.

In winter, I've made it over every road surface attempted without a hairy moment. That includes the like of Red Mountain Pass, Wolf Creek Pass, Monarch, and even up over Rabbit Ears. The only issues have been with heavy, packed snow in parking lots, and that's as much to do with my car as the tire itself.

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this tire. It's performed beyond my expectations.

My previous tires were the Bridgestone Dueler's as comparison, and they were just slightly better in the dry, but the Conti's have been MUCH better in Rain/Snow.

Fantastic tire!!! Replaced a set of Cont DWS - nice tire but started getting really noisy about 35,000 miles. This tire goes through all kinds of weather with no difficulty - snow is no problem at all. Noise is low, ride is fantastic and they are wearing like iron. I do drive mostly highway but they have already out performed the DWS, Goodyear F1 allseason, and Altimax I had previously. I think the XL makes a difference on the Audi - Highly recommend.

Okay, bought thise with a set of Enkie PF-01's in 15" so my wife would be happier with the ride. At first I lost about 7 mpg gas mileage. They take quite a while to break in but mileage has slowly increased back to around 42 on the highway (I got used to the 47mpg with the Continental DWS's at 70mph- calculated, not the computor). The Enkie's are a half inch wider & I've lost very little cornering power. These Defenders flat go in the snow. Having a door dent repaired I was left with Hankooks mounted on a Kia. That thing would slide completely through an intersection at less than 10 mph on packed snow. My Fit would easily stop at the same intersection from 35mph with the Defenders. i have boosted presure to 39psi trying to improve mileage but it takes away the ride characteristics. Handling is great, wear is great, steering turn-in is reasonably good, dry & wet cornering is admirable. The steering response saved me major repairs when I dodged a deer on I-49 in the middle of the night. Most other cars would have hit it for sure. Good tires, just plan on poor mileage until they're broken in. Tire Rack is the only place to go, received these tires/wheels in 48 hours from ordering.

Initial Review, 10,000 Miles on Tires

The Lexus CT200h is the Lexus version of the Toyota Prius. The Prius has been noted as being terrible in the snow. I was concerned, but bought the car anyway, figuring that snow tires would make a difference. They have made a HUGE difference. The car has a continuously variable transmission CVT, and I don't know how that relates to Traction Control. But I can tell you my experience on the road with it.

This last winter in Chicago was difficult. LOTS of snow, wet slidey snow, packing so that it was slippery at stops. I drove early in the morning and late at night, before the plows had a chance to clear the streets. I was driving on virgin snow, deep 6" - 8" and more when it drifted. The car drove solidly all winter. I NEVER got stuck, I NEVER had trouble starting out, even if I was on a hill, NEVER had problems changing lanes at posted speeds - yes, posted speeds. I was able to easily drive through those spaces in the intersections where snow has been pushed into high drifts by the plows or passing cars. No problems. I NEVER got stuck, or had to rock my way out of a bad situation. I just drove my car. And it just took me where I wanted to go. No drama, no issues. Isn't that why you buy snow tires?

I have always been a firm believer is snow tires for winter. Spending $800 on tires and spare wheels for this car was a ---send. It drove like a tank all winter long, easily keeping up with the 4WD behemoths on the road, driving wherever I wanted. You won't be disappointed by using this tire.

These are a great 3 season tire. If you live in areas of frequent and prolonged snow/ice and I would pair these with snow tires.

I was down to getting either this tire, the Continental Extremecontact DWS or the Michelin Pilot A/S 3. At the time of purchase the Michelin had a lot or reports of a harsher ride and increased noise. The Continental had reports on the audizine forum of a weak side wall and multiple members experiencing a blown side wall. The biggest complaint on the Bridgestone was poor performance in the winter.

I have a separate winter tire for use from November to April here in Colorado. However, I did not want to use a summer only tire due to our occasional late spring snow storms and the occasional summer snow storm in the mountains. I also wanted a tire that would have better tread wear then a summer only tire.

I am very happy with this tire. The steering response is very crisp. Road noise is minimal or at least not beyond a normal level the degrades from your drive. Cornering is great when I am aggressive in the corners, off/on ramps or around the roundabouts. I have never felt more connected to the road in wet weather then I do with with this tire.

I only have two bad comments on this tire.
1) yes the winter/snow/ice ability is poor to average on this tire. If you are cautious you will do fine, but coming from snow tires and using these in one of our recent spring snowstorms and I was reminded quickly that you can't be aggressive in the snow with these.
2) I get flat spots on these when I park overnight. Its less evident when the weather is above 80 degrees F. It takes about 1 mile till the tires round out again.

Overall a great tire that I would buy again. I took off a set of Pirelli P6 all seasons with only 10,000 miles on them because they were so loud and harsh. These tires are so much better.

Overall for a performance tire at this price it is excellent with a catch. The ride characteristics are great for this category of tire in normal driving conditions, very smooth even on chewed up roads and relatively quite. Tons of traction particularly while corning, more then the Dunlop SP9090s and Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics I've had on the same car. Unlike both those this tire has very soft side walls. This is partly why the grip in the corners is so good as it holds on where the others would start to slide, however this also leads to a lot of side wall deflection - not a big deal in normal driving but if you are doing hard cornering with quick directional change it will be. In such cases there is a fair amount of 'lag' as the tires unload from one side then reload on the other - during this time car has very disconnected feel - steering wheel is turned but you aren't turning yet - depending on the severity of the situation once the tires re-engage it can unsettle the car and in extreme instances has caused the stability control on my car to engage where other tires in the same situation this didn't happen. Upping the PSI above recommended settings mitigate this some at the cost of ride/noise comfort and tread wear.

Initial Review, 5,000 Miles on Tires
June 03, 2014

Did lots of reviews on TireRack before making my purchase. Bought a set of 18" RX8 wheels for my mazda3 and needed a set of tires to go with. After extensive research these are the tires I chose.

First thing to note, the tires are concave, as in the rim is 'poked' out from the tire. i absolutely LOVE this. it makes the rims stand out much more than most cars on the road. Most cars have tires that are rounded outwards, and most tires have a 'rim gaurd' that protects your rims from road rash. Yes, you are more prone to scratching your rims with these tires, but i am a very careful driver and I make a point to avoid any scratching. The effect of these 'inward' tires portray is outstanding and i love looking at these rims every day.

Tread pattern is definitely neat.. asymmetrical but it looks cool compared to other conventional designs.

Third, this is my first set of brand new tires. I went from a set of Grand Touring Toyo tires to a lower profile Continental tire. I really have not much experience with other tires to compare or base my judgement on but i will say handling is like a charm. Sharp turns get cut thru like a knife thru butter, grip is excellent, not a lot of tire screech unless youre really pushing it. keeping them clean isnt a hassle, and the wear seems pretty good and i drive somewhat harder than most people.

Overall, im VERY happy with the purchase i made even though they were expensive. Never settle for cheaper tires, you get what you pay for and it really shows (my last car had cheap tires). Save up, do your research and buy a good set. They are an investment in your fun, and your health.

A great improvement over the slippery OEM Michelins or my last tire the Continental DW's. It's like getting a new car. I never knew my Acura could ride this nice or this quiet. Wish I would have bought these years ago. A tip for tire researchers: Search by tire size not by car model. This tire does not show up for my car when searching by car model but it has turned out to be perfect for my car.

I did a fair amount of research on "mini" forums and other internet data and most everyone was very happy with the Continental Extreme Contact DW tires. I was AMAZED at the quiet ride. I purchased the car with @35000 miles and the original run-flats had already been replaced. The tires that were on it seemed pretty good on dry roads and cornering was never a problem, they had a little roll at max cornering speed. While I havent gotten to spend a lot of time cornering with the new tires they seem way more stable back and forth cornering.
