Initial Review, 9,500 Miles on Tires

Great comfort, very low noise, great traction & good economics. Beginning third season with ample tread. I have an undersized tread width application for better traction as recommended by Tire Rack, and maintain higher tire pressures (34-35 lb/in2) for good freeway stability. I chose this tire because it's bi-directional like the no longer available Blizzak WS-50 and can be rotated from side to side, with out reversals on the rim. I found that living 3 years with directional WS60 tires to be expensive and rough on the custom wheel finish for required rotations and re-balancing. I hope that Dunlop and Tire Rack will continue to provide this tread style.

Hurst Gives Your New Mustang or Camaro That Old School Look with the Shaker

Friday, December 28, 2012 by Doc Horvath

Ever since Detroit restarted the muscle car war with the new Camaro and Mustang, many people have looked to give these vehicles a retro look with classic five-spoke wheels. In an effort to mix old school looks with modern finishes, Hurst has introduced the Shaker in 20" staggered width fitments for both vehicles. The wheel is also a fit for the following applications:

  • Pontiac G8
  • Chrysler 300
  • Dodge Charger
  • Dodge Magnum
Hurst Shaker
Hurst Shaker
Hurst Shaker
Hurst Shaker

Shaker wheels retain the classic five-spoke design with an innovative design that allows the owner to use either black or gold inserts in the center of the spokes to personalize the application. The inner barrel and sides of the spokes are painted black and clearcoated to hide brake dust, while the edges of the spokes are machined to expose brushed aluminum underneath for contrast. Available in both 20x8.5 and 20x10 sizes, the Shaker wheel is perfect for either a square set-up with the 8.5" wide wheel on all four corners or a mix of the two widths to put the wider tires and wheels on the back axle only.

Great Deal on 235/60R18 Michelin Primacy MXV4 Tires

Thursday, December 27, 2012 by Gary Stanley

Looking for a fantastic deal on a set of 235/60R18 tires? Look no further. We're currently offering the top-rated Michelin Primacy MXV4 for just $172 per tire! This low price makes the tire among the least expensive in the 235/60R18 size while giving you the chance to install a set of one of the best tires on the market on your vehicle.

Ranked as the number one tire in the Grand Touring All-Season category, the Michelin Primacy MXV4 receives high marks for its ride comfort, noise comfort, treadwear and dry traction performance. 235/60R18 Primacy MXV4 tires are branded with Michelin's Green X symbol to show visual confirmation of the tire's positive contribution to vehicle fuel efficiency and the global environment. Lowering the tire's rolling resistance by optimizing its weight, internal structure, tread design and tread compound makes it possible for the vehicle to reduce fuel consumption and its emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

Many applications commonly use the 235/60R18 size and the following vehicles would be a great candidate for a set of Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires in this size:

  • Acura MDX
  • Chrysler 300
  • Ford Flex
  • Hyundai Santa Fe Limited
  • Kia Sorento
  • Mazda CX-7

The tire is so good I purchased a set for the family SUV, a 2009 Mazda CX-7. For my review of the tire read "Michelin Primacy MXV4 Tires Installed on My Crossover." Along with myself, many of our customers have had a great experience using this tire on their vehicle:

"Holy cow! What a difference a tire makes! These tires by far have the best grip of all three tires I've had. Amazing grip on turns in wet weather gives me utmost confidence as I drive. Every trip is enjoyable. It'll be Michelin from now on!" -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon 2.5I

"We replaced a set of very noisy tires with the MXV4 and it is amazing! We now actually hear our engine in the car and not road noise. These tires are so quiet and the ride is very, very smooth! I think they are worth every penny!" -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2007 Mercury Milan

'These Michelin tires have far exceeded my expectations. Our Lexus LS430 drives and performs excellent with no problems whatsoever. Over the past 60 years I have bought and drove on all sorts of brands of tires and this Michelin is the best by far. I would not buy anything else." -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2002 Lexus LS430

19,500 mi. and the tires are wiped out. Down to 3/32" at best, and this is on a 4cyl. PT Cruiser. Before putting these on I put on new struts, lower control arm bushings & ball joints, front wheel bearings, outer tie rods, and stabilizer links so that my new tires would not wear quickly. I guess that didn't work.

No major complaints for a tire that tries to do it all, and mostly succeeds. Some hydroplaning issues, snow grip could be better, but then would probably be noisier. Will get 60-65k miles. A little over-priced, but overall, a good tire.

Great tires! I have had them on my car for 2 years and they still have tread. Ride comfort is amazing and they are very quiet. These are by far the best tires I have ever bought and feel like I may be a lifelong customer. These tires even held up when I was stuck in a heavy blizzard and made it through about 40 miles in those conditions and got me home safe. The traction I got with these was unbelievable and something I would expect from a high performance tire. Also these are the best tires I have ever used in heavy rain. I never hydroplaned once until I reached about 50% tread and even then it was minimal. These tires made me feel the safest in any weather conditions while on the road and I do a lot of driving so these tires are perfect! I would highly recommend them for other to try! I know the price went up about 17$ a tire since I last purchased them but I would still pay the money for these.

I have never had a tire last this long or work this well before. With over 60k miles there is still alot of tread left and my wife and I both drive aggressively. Our little Chrysler minivan, I stiffened the suspension sharply for better freeway handling and widened the tires and rims 1 level. A mushy suspension is evil :-X
When people follow too closely exiting the freeway I am easily able to loose them cornering like a little sports car, no plowing no noise or scrubbing. A minivan should NOT handle this well. Its not that the suspension is stiff either. On back roads it is still quite comfortable. It is these tires, they really stick AND they last and last.
Given the price, these tires are an EXCELLENT buy !!

Great Offer on the Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT

Friday, October 19, 2012 by Steve Huffman

Last winter, Goodyear unveiled a new Studless Ice & Snow tire, the Ultra Grip Ice WRT. Developed for passenger-carrying coupes, sedans, minivans and crossover vehicles, the tire meets the industry's severe snow service requirements and is branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol.

Goodyear's Winter Reactive Technology combines innovative features working together to help drivers react to changing winter driving conditions when starting, stopping and turning in snow and on ice. This highly directional and multi-siped tread design will channel water and slush away from under the tire's footprint to enhance traction and handling in cold, wet and wintry conditions.

Available in over 30 sizes ranging between 15 and 19 inches, the Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT fits a variety of vehicles. Take a look at what a few of our customers are saying about their experience with this Studless Ice & Snow tire from Goodyear:

"These tires are great in winter conditions or when the roads are wet." -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2008 Honda Civic Sedan EX-L

"I live in Northwest Colorado, and these tires are fantastic on my FWD sedan. I am a fairly spirited driver and they haven't let me down. I only wish every vehicle out there had these, instead of sliding all over the road in their all-season tires. Highly recommend for drivers in regions with heavy snowfall and icy winters." -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2008 Saturn Aura XR

"If these are not the best snow/ice tires out there, I don't know what is. I installed these on my Chrysler 300 four weeks ago and have been extremely impressed. We had freezing rain this week in Maine and the roads were a sheet of ice. The Goodyears literally felt like they were glued to the road! My 300 was helpless in the snow before these tires. No problem now!" -- Tire Rack Consumer Review, 2005 Chrysler 300 Base Rear Wheel Drive

I've got over 65,000 miles on this set of tires. I LOVE them. There is still 5/6 32nds left on the tires. I live in Wisconsin and drive a rear wheel drive car. Snow traction is awesome. I rotate the tires every 6000 miles. Free tire rotation comes with my oil change and I swear by rotating tires as recomended. I will always buy these tires and rotate them on time. A trip to rotate tires once every three months is way chaper than buying a new set of tires!

September 14, 2012

I purhcased the Crossfire new in 2005. The back tires lasted only 17,000 miles. However, most likely due to me under inflating them 3-4 lbs. Front tires are now worn out and they have 30,500 miles on them. The car corners like it's on rails and have excellent dry & wet road traction. Deep snow does seem to be a problem. However, part is due to the low stance of the car. Winter traction setting makes it nearly impossible to spin the car. My recommendation is to check the tire pressure often and keep them up to specs in all seasons. The 2nd set of rear tires are wearing much better with proper inflation.

This tire made my van handle well in all weather conditions. It caused my van to get about 10% less gas mileage than the original equipment tires. These tires are worn out at 37,000 miles. At $800 for the set, I would not buy these tires again.
