Initial Review, 4,500 Miles on Tires
February 03, 2013

I purchased my Continental Extreme Contact DWS in October from Tire Rack and I can honestly say the purchase through Tire Rack and the tires themselves has been the best experience. I have a 2008 Chrysler 300 limited DUB Edition which I honestly love. As mch as I love my car , which will be classic someday , it is rear wheel drive with all chrome wheels that only will allow performance tires . By the way I live in snowy Columbus, Ohio. Last winter was "dangerous " riding on my Goodyear RSA's. Like many of you reading this review with the winter coming and remembering my fear last winter everytime it snowed , I started looking for an all season tire that was best in the snow in August. After reading many reviews on many sites, though they were the most expensive, I narrowed my purchase down to the Michelen Primacy MXV4 and the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. I made my decision in October. The experience at Tire Rack was so painless that I ordered the tires on a Friday and had them installed on a Saturday at a Tire Dealer less than a mile from my house. Here is the best part, the 1st snow in Columbus hit the 1st week of December , 6 inches the 1st day and 5 the next day. If this had been a year ago , I would stayed home and never left the garage. However, this year, I was absoultely amazed at how good the ttraction is for a rear wheel drive car in the snow. The difference is day and night . The fear of "snow is gone, thanks to these tires. The ride is smooth and amazingly quiet and the braking and driving on wet payment is firm and compliant. These tires were expensive and my only negative thing to say about them is that when it is cold they seem like they weigh alot and steering is sluggish until they warm up. If you have a rear wheel drive car and live in a snowy climate, and want a quiet ride, and good traction without compromising performance these are the tires for you. I am more than pleased and will definitely buy these again from Tire Rack again.

Expanded Steel Wheel Offerings at Tire Rack

Thursday, September 12, 2013 by Hunter Leffel

One of the most requested items during the colder months is steel wheels for a Winter / Snow Tire & Wheel Package. While we attempt to cover as much of the demand as possible, unfortunately as more new vehicles are standard equipped with alloy wheels, the availability of a steel wheel has become difficult over the years. There's some good news as we have been able to add some steelies for vehicles we have previously been unable to accommodate. Also, remember that while steel wheels provide basic styling, you can update the look with a set of wheel covers. Steel wheels are now available for the following vehicles starting in the winter of 2013:

  • 2008 and newer Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan
  • 2009 and newer Dodge Journey
  • 2011 and newer Jeep Wrangler

To discover if we have steel wheels for your specific car, start by shopping by vehicle. This process will present tires first, followed by the option to view available wheels, including steel wheels (if applicable), for your application.

Best Minivan Tires

Tuesday, August 20, 2013 by Steve Huffman

In the early 1980s, Chrysler introduced the Dodge Caravan. More than thirty years later, the Caravan and many other minivan models can be found on the road shuffling families from school, to the grocery store and back home again. These vans quickly replaced the station wagon and have never looked back. Today, Chrysler, Honda and Toyota make up a large portion of the minivan market in America. When looking to replace tires on your minivan, consider the following options.

One of the best tires for a minivan is certainly the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring. This is one of our top-ranked Grand Touring All-Season tires. As the name entails, this is a very smooth, quiet and comfortable riding tire. It also has superior all-season traction and has a very long lasting treadlife.

An option to consider from Michelin is their Defender. Currently the highest rated Standard Touring All-Season tire, it provides excellent year-round traction. This tire has also been designated by Michelin as one of their Green X options, which is engineered to provide better fuel economy. It's also one of the longest lasting tires, as it's offered with a 90,000-mile treadlife warranty.

Another great option for minivan drivers is the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia. While Dueler tires are typically meant for light trucks and SUVs, many of the new minivans are using larger 17" and 18" sizes. This tire makes a great option if you fall in this category. Not only does it have great year-round traction, but it's also a low rolling resistance tire that will help improve your MPG.

Tuning Solution for Your Dodge, Jeep or Chrysler: Hypertech Interceptor

Wednesday, July 31, 2013 by Doc Horvath

Enthusiasts are always in search of getting "just a little more" out of their vehicles than the factory intended -- whether it's improving the handling with suspension and tire upgrades or increasing power with powertrain tweaks. Tire Rack is proud to offer Hypertech's Interceptor engine tuning system for select Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler applications.

The Interceptor is a dedicated wired-in system that mounts easily underneath the hood while using factory style wiring harnesses that snap into your existing engine management system with no splicing or cutting of wires. It then continually adjusts the factory’s computer performance calibrations to boost horsepower and torque, provide quicker acceleration and improve MPG (all without voiding your factory warranty). In addition to controlling engine functions such as air/fuel mixture, spark timing and maximum RPM, the Interceptor also regulates transmission shift points and firmness for better driveability.

Expected gains by using the Hypertech Interceptor:

  • Dodge / Ram 5.7 HEMI engines will see an increase between 33 and 40 horsepower
  • Chrysler, Dodge and Jeeps equipped with the 5.7 HEMI will see an improvement between 20 and 22 horsepower
  • Chrysler, Dodge and Jeeps equipped with the 6.4 (SRT) engine will see an improvement between 13 and 18 horsepower
  • The new Jeep JK equipped with the 3.6 engine will see a horsepower gain of about eight.

The Interceptor is street-legal for use in all 50 states (C.A.R.B. E.O. or pending) and features a 30-day, money-back, satisfaction guarantee.

If you have one of the vehicles listed above, view what the Interceptor can do for your car.

They are listed at 100,000 but I will not get there with these tires. They are great all season tires for the price. I had Michelin on my Explorer before but they were over $300 more than the Hankook Optimo tires. I am please with the tires and recommend them. Consumer Reports has the Optimo H727 rated as a "Best Buy".

I purchased this tire in December of 2011 and I have been waiting to write my review until I could experience winter driving in snow. These tires are excellent in every situation which are experienced in Nebraska driving conditions. My immediate response to these tires in dry and wet driving was night and day from my previous tires. I especially appreciate the quietness of these tires After almost 20,000 miles on them they still make the car handle like it is brand new even though I have over 107,000 miles on my 300C AWD. At the same time I bought these tires I also bought Continental Pro Contact ECO+ for my wife's car and there is no comparison. I can say that I would recommend these tires to anyone and they are my replacement tires of choice in the future!

I replaced my Mich. Pilots with the Spec-X.. I went with the reviews I read about the Spec-X,and for the most part have been very impressed with this tire. The tread design is great for dispersing water during heavy rain. I was most impressed with how this tire handles in any depth of snow I have attemped to travel in. I live in Wisconsin. We currently were visited by snow storm "Rocky". The snow was heavy(at least 8inches) with winds creating drifting that snowplows were unable to keep up with clearing roads. Though travel was slow, these tires handled like a champ! I had these tires installed in October of 2012. I also had an alignment done to make sure I can rate them best for wear and gas mileage. I monitor tire pressure on a regular basis. I did notice my gas mile decrease about 3-4 mpg. But colder temps can affect that as well.. I will better be able to monitor gas mileage once temps become more suitable to get more accurrate results. Overall I have really enjoyed these tires. I will post again once I have experienced these tires thru a summer season in Wisconsin to let you know my findings........

Cons: Went 5 times for tire balancing; still no luck. Got no problem with my car whatsoever. Tends to bounce and shake on high speeds.

I'm in Texas, so winter-driving is rare. If there is snow, everything here closes. Anyway, this is the tire you should get. I've gone through the O. E. tires, mmhee... reasonable. Then a set of Kumho tires that did alright, but wore down quickly. These tires are barely showing signs of aging. Road noise is hardly there. I feel very confident driving on these through the rain, too.
So:
They are quiet.
They are lasting for a long time.
Never a concern in the rain.

My car was originally equipped with Continental tires but I never grew very fond of them. Shortly after my new purchase, I chose these Michelins on a tip from a friend who owned them. I'm very glad I took his advice as over 3 years and nearly 60,000 miles have passed without a complaint. The tire performs very well in all four seasons including winter where snow and ice make great demands on any tire. The Michelins always are up to the task even in the worst weather. I'm told that i have at least another 5000+ safe miles in my current set so I'll be looking for identical replacements down the road. I'll continue to use this tire exclusivley as long as I have a car that will accomodate them sizewise. I wouldn't have anything else.

The stock tires on my Chrysler 300 were positively scary on ice and snow, even for somebody who learned to drive in Minnesota in the winter, in 1970's rear wheel drive cars. I decided to change to winter tires, and bought a wheel/tire package with the Michelin Xi3. With these tires, you don't even notice light snow, and traction in deep snow and on ice is very sure and predictable. On dry pavement, these tires are as quiet as the stock tires. The on-center feel is slightly looser than the stock tires, but still very good. It's a small price to pay for the improvement in traction.

I ordered these tires late on a Wednesday night, and on Friday afternoon the UPS truck was backing into my driveway! I'm very impressed with the Tire Rack's service!

Wow, after I have replaced my old Goodyear Eagle RS-A (pretty good OEM tires), i was so surprised by my new Scorpions with its comfort level at first, with very soft and nice ride, and almost no noise in the car. I have Mazda CX-7 and it is a very noisy car itself, Japan cars don't have such good noise isolation as American (let's say Cadillacs or even Chryslers) or German (BMWs or Mercedes's). So comfort level was first and biggest surprise of Pirelli Scorpio Ice&Snow. Then Wet Traction is just superior. I usually drive 85-90 miles per hour in US, i would say always, does not really matter dry, rain or snow (sorry guys, i have no speeding tickets for 16 years, I know how to talk nice to troopers and police, so i am lucky on this side). I am from Europe, so in Germany for example I am driving up to 160-170 MPH (if car allows, usually if BMWs-170MPH, Volvos-160MPH, Opels-156MPH). So with these new Scorpios I would drive up to the its limit with no concerns, even on the wet road. Nice nice tires, probably once of the best I have ever used o my cars. I belive that I have found the best tire for the Mazda CX-7. Will see how it will wear out with time, but as of today I am very happy with these Scorpions.

I put these on my wifes van. She uses this for work and vacations. Last year in Chicago we had a couple of 6" plus snowa and a few lighter snowa. These tires were awesome in the snow. Felt like I had awd. On icy roads the Blizzaks are much better confidence around corners over an all season tire. I highly recomend buying a set of snow tires for winter. They even made my brothers 2013 Mustang GT with a manual better in snow than most front wheel drive cars. My wife thanks me every time it snows!
