Ultra High Performance Tire Testing, Fuel Economy Results

Wednesday, July 7, 2010 by Chad Hocker
The second round of 2010 tire testing is complete. This time, Tire Rack tested tires from the Ultra High Performance Summer tire category. We collected fuel economy data during our Real World Road Ride -- a test drive on a circuit of highway and county roads in Indiana. The fuel economy results for the Ultra High Performance Summer tires we tested are shown below. The Yokohama S.drive achieved the best fuel economy at 27.8 mpg.
High Performance TiresMPG
BFGoodrich g-Force Sport26.4
Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 50027.0
Kumho Ecsta SPT KU3127.3
Yokohama S.drive27.8
This information is based on our team of test drivers completing approximately 500 miles per tire over several days on the same 6.6-mile test loop. I would recommend using this fuel data as a good tire buying tie-breaker since the mileage differences are small and would only result in a difference of a few extra fill ups every year.

We'll have the full test results posted online soon.
