Latest Test Results Include Fuel Economy Data

The first round of tire testing is complete for 2010. New for this season's testing is the inclusion of fuel economy data. We collect fuel economy data during our Real World Road Rides where we test tires on a circuit of highway and county roads in Indiana. The fuel economy results for the High Performance All-Season tires we tested a few weeks ago are shown below. The Yokohama AVID ENVigor achieved the best fuel economy.

High Performance TiresMPG
Firestone Precision Sport27.7
Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S28.4
Sumitomo HTR A/S P0127.8
Yokohama AVID ENVigor28.7

This information is based on our team of test drivers completing approximately 500 miles per tire over several days on the same 6.6 mile test loop. We do our best to remove all the variables and use consistent methods for testing. I would recommend using this fuel data as a good tie-breaker since the mileage differences are small and would only add up to a small amount each year.
