Looking to replace the 225/55R19 Kumho Solus KH16 Original Equipment tires on your Dodge Journey? An alternative size of 235/55R19 is a little wider and taller but will still fit on the vehicle and within the plus or minus 3% overall diameter of the O.E. tire size. If you decide to use the alternative tire size make sure you replace all four tires with the same size and tire. Tire Rack recommends matching tires on all cars, but in this case, with Journey's all-wheel drive capabilities, it's even more important to have the same size and same tire. A matching set of tires will allow the vehicle's AWD system to operate as intended.
Also consider the following tires in the 235/55R19 tire size:
Yokohama Parada Spec-X
Michelin Latitude Tour HP
Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season

The 235/55/19 size is a gauranteed fitment from Tire Rack and is known to work quite well. Please get in touch with me via marshall@tirerack.com if I can help you with a set of replacement tires.
I live across the boarder from Buffalo, so being "decent in light snow "might not really good enough for my region.
I'm ok with going wider with the 235's, I just need something a little more aggressive in snow.
Any suggestions?
I will most likely go across the border and pick up the tires.
Thanks in advance. Jeff
If you are looking for a cost effective tire that rates well in all seasons, take a look at the Yokohama Parada Spec-X. It is avaialble in the 235/55/19 size and has always been very popular. -marshall@tirerack.com
The Yokohama is available and currently $174/ea. -Marshall@tirerack.com
Although we also prefer narrower winter fitments, the only snow size available for the Journey would be a 235/55/19. -marshall@tirerack.com
While those two tire sizes will fit on the wheel, they are both considerably shorter than what we would recommend. -Marshall@tirerack.com
According to our records, that tire size would be a bit short. The correct tire size for the Journey would be 225/70/16. -marshall@tirerack.com
Rotating these tires would not hurt although may not be required. they can be rotated in criss cross pattern. -Marshall
16" packages for the Journey do exist and can be found using the winter fitment section of our website. -Marshall@tirerack.com
Downsizing to a smaller wheel will allow you to use a 17 or 18" tire. done appropriately with the correct sized tires, the vehicles electronic systems will never know the difference.
I have a Dodge Journey RT 2012 with 225-55-19 tires and am looking for winter tires. While the other Journey models come equiped with smaller tires, i was told I had to stick to 19'' due to caliper size. Is this true, what are my options for winter. I don't mind the 19'' for summer but would like something narrower for winter.
Thanks
Maybe it's the same problem with 19". But I don't understand why galiper size would change with wheel size. It make no sense to me.. I meen, it's the same car, should it not be the same brake system regardless of wheel size??
Our records indicate downsizing is possible down to 16" depending on trim model. -Marshall@tirerack.com
For an affordable well rated tire, take a look at the Firestone Precision Touring or the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422.
While that size will fit on your wheels, it is taller than what the vehicle requires and may result in rubbing issues. -Marshall
That size would be a bit wider than what we would recommend. 245/50/19 would be the widest we would suggest. -Marshall
