If you are driving a rear wheel drive car like my camaro and it snows where you live get a set for the winter driving. Took my pirelli stock tires off due to slipping and sliding on the smallest amount of snow and put the scorpions on and WOW!!!! huge difference no slipping or sliding at all. Went thru 6" of snow with no problem the Ice is very good as well due to the siping on the tread. Would have liked to be able to stud them but cant. One bad thing they are louder than the all season tires particularly on rough roads.Cornering is a little less stable than the all seasons as well. If it snows get a set ASAP!

This is basically a fun HPDE / Autocross tire for me. I plan to switch to a different set of wheels/tires for daily driving. Last year I used Conti DW and Michelin Supersports for daily, autocross and HPDE use, howevever that was with a different car, so I can't make a direct comparison.

Ride quality is actually pretty reasonable given the "extreme" nature of this tire. Actually, ride has improved over the oem Dunlop SP Sport 2050 tires, however, some of that may be due to the smaller and lighter wheels. I'm sure a more recent max performance summer tire will ride better, and a gran touring tire better still, but these are quite reasonable for what they are, and not at the level of harshness of a run flat tire.

Noise is deeper and a little louder than oem, but still not bad. It is more noticeable at lower speeds (40-50mph) now. Smooth tarmac is still quiet, but rough tarmac, or concrete is where you will hear them.

OK, now for the performance aspect. So far I have just 2 days on track with these tires, 1 dry and 1 wet. I was very happy with them in both conditions. In the dry, these held up well for a 25 minute session. They did get slightly greasy feeling after a few hot laps, but much less so than the Supersports I last ran at this track and adjusting tire pressures helped dial that out. There is another comment on here saying that the traction is harder to judge for the beginner due to the lack of audible feedback. I did find it hard to judge traction in my first session, however once I had learned to understand the feedback after that first session, I found them to be very communicative and was able to push up to the limit of traction. I'm not a complete beginner, but neither am I that experienced yet. In the wet, they worked well on track and I also drove through some storms on the way home with no aqua planing.

Overall, I am very happy with these tires and would recommend them for anyone who wants an aggressive street tire.

This is an initial first impression review. Going from stock tires to these i have noticed a much quieter and softer ride which made my two trips to the office much better than my old loud tires.
Sidewalls i've found are MUCH softer than the OEM Yokohama's, which unfortunately makes cornering a little questionable. Even going down the highway, shake the wheel a little back and forth, you can feel the car floating around. Interesting how i didn't find any mention of the soft sidewalls here, but one i searched for that specific issue found a lot of forums with this complaint. Will post a followup review after i can test the performance in all conditions.

Overall a pretty good tire. Car is mostly driven on weekends and when the weather is nice. Occasionally goes to autocross. Can't really comment on wet performance, as I very rarely drive the car in the rain, and can't really speak about noise level as I can't hear tires over my exhaust. Handling of this tire seems to be very crisp. Lateral stability is excellent. My big complaint is a lack of forward bite. I seemed to have more forward bite with my BFG G-Force Sports, which were 20mm narrower. Granted, no street tire is going to be perfect with 430+ lb-ft to the wheels.

Overall, would recommend this tire for a mostly street driven sports car. Will probably be looking somewhere else for my next set, likely just to a softer compound to get more grip under acceleration.

Time will tell with the tires. From the other reviews I read before my purchase I'm sure that these will be a good tire for my purpose.
I purchased these with new ENKEI M52 hyper black wheels and the combination looks great on my black car. I ordered on a Saturday , received 2 that Tuesday and the other 2 that Wednesday, all in perfect condition.

Recently purchased these tires mounted & balanced on steel wheels by Tire Rack. If you need to get around in snow, sleet, or slush, you want real winter tires, not all-seasons. Had no problem in Winter Storm Nemo on unplowed roads, my car is an '05 Honda Civic 5 speed stickshift.

 

Dunlop Sport Maxx Race: DOT-Legal Track Tire Expands Size Lineup

The Dunlop Sport Maxx Race is a racing tire that is street legal. Unlike some other race tires that are DOT-legal but not intended for road use, the Sport Maxx Race is able to be driven to and from the track. This tire performs excellently on dry roads and was introduced as the stock tire for the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series. Dunlop has recently expanded their offerings for the widths ranging from 235mm to 325mm.

These tires are a class up from Extreme Performance Summer tires that offer a balance of street longevity and track performance. The Dunlops are more track focused and have less longevity on the street. While we haven't had the opportunity to test the Sport Maxx Race yet, we have received some very positive customer feedback. In a recent review, one owner writes:

"Though it is soft and wears quickly, it is actually quite comfortable and not very loud at all. I have two sets of wheels/tires; one for the street and another for track. Other than the price and how quickly they wear, I can't find a single fault with this tire. It is designed for the track, and is only DOT-certified so that you can drive your car to the track, instead of trailering it there. The Sport Maxx is the best tire of its kind, in my experience."

This is more a review of these tires on my specific car.



Great in the snow, absolutely great. The more snow the better, or so it seems. Braking is easily better than all-seasons, as is handling and acceleration. Wet snow is noticable more difficult to maintain control, however. Now for the bad news, seemingly terrible in the slush. Not sure if it is my car or the tires, but the car gets pushed around very easily by even small amounts of slush. I tend to believe it has more to do with my cars suspension, weight, and width to wheelbase ratio than the tires though. Easier to drive through 6 inches of snow than 1 inch of slush. Fun to have a car willing to rotate on dry roads, but not so much on wet winter slush.



Dry roads are mixed, as these things like to grab every little pebble and sand grain the road commission dumps on Michigan. Slip and control is well within tolerance though, and really only becomes an issue in spirited driving. It takes very little to spin the inside wheel accelerating through a tight corner if there is any sand, debris. Clean roads are great in the dry though. Some tire wandering above 65 mph, although determined mostly by road surface. Tires seem to move and stretch a noticable amount more above freezing temperatures, although this is only apparent driving back to back temperature differences.



Very quiet tire, almost as quiet as the non-OEM all-seasons that I had on before. (Coopers?) Much quieter than my father and bro-in-laws Blizzak Revo's. Stock wheels are 17", these are on 16", I notice more rebounding motion from the tires than stock, although small imperfections are slightly smoothed over versus stock. In retrospect, I should have gone with 17" as the extra sidewall can be felt in hard acceleration. Not sure on tread-wear yet.



In summary on my Mazda 6s, great on the snow, bad in slush, matches wet(rain) A/S performance, dependable dry weather performance and a very quiet ride for snow tires.

When Should I Remove My Winter / Snow Tires?

People often ask when they should put on and remove their winter / snow tires. Typically, the time most drivers have their winter tires on their vehicle is from late November to early April.

It's important to use them only during the winter months in an attempt to maximize their treadlife. As illustrated in the photo below, tread depth is one of the most important features of a winter tire.

Convinced 87 year old mother to replace 7 year old original Continental tires with 1/2 remaining tread and 35k miles with new ones as they were getting a little hard. She was happy with the Continentals so I read all the tests on the new ProEco's and they finished first in the tests. Competitively priced with all the leading sellers with better performance. Know full well these will be the last tires she will ever need on this car. She was immediately impressed with the handling and quiet of the car and new tires. I took it out in 24F crappy weather with slush and rain to see how good they were going to be. Awesome!! They are much superior to the original design in wet, slushy and dry. Light snow and ice up and down driveways with traction control is a breeze. I've been driving this car in dry, wet and light snow for the last two weeks and can find no fault with them. Modern cars with ABS and traction control with 17" alloy wheels will love these tires. Handling in the extreme under bad weather is quite amazing for a Green tire with 80k tire wear. I have autocrossed cars for 30 years so pretty much know how to road test tires for grip and steering feel in both wet and dry. These tires have it all for the average motorist at a fair price. I totally concur with Tirerack's tests. Especially when the cruise control is on at 70mph on the highway the ride is great and they are totally quiet with an original factory suspension. These are great tires for NW Ohio where the snow rarely gets over 3" deep.

I love these R-S3's. I used Falken Azenis RT-215,s and Falken Azenis RT-615 in the past. My car is used a lot on the track. I am an Instructor at the Driveway Austin Track in Austin.

The compound appears to be of an R type as shown by the graining of the tire and lack of tire noise. The grip in dry weather is very good. The Falken 215's were good for the first 3 laps then they would degrade in grip. I found the Falken 615's to be even worse than the 215's. These Ventus R-S3's are far better than the 2 Falkens. The grip is there for much longer the the Falkens.

Even on the limestone laced asphalt in the Austin area they have good grip. There is a section of road that is very slippery even on a hot dry day that cars routinely spin out on. These tires grip well even on this slick section of asphalt.

On the track they work great they make my feel car as though I put $2000 dollars into it. My car is front wheel drive so it really over works the front tires but the R-S3's very well through my 5 to 15 minute stints. With these tires it is a lot easier to go fast and the under steer is reduced as well as oversteer. I am able to apply power when exiting the corners than before. Turn in is also much better.

I have not noticed any problems in the rain. As for noise they generate a little from the tread pattern. The Falken 215 was the quietest tire I ever had.

The R-S3's come with a lot of rubber on them 11/32nd which is just fine for because I also drive my car to the track 6 days a week 48 miles round trip and after 7063 miles.

I try to stay away from directional tires to avoid getting saw tooth due to rolling in the same direction it's whole life. The tread blocks get stair step and the tire can become loud like an off road truck tire but these have not done this! I rotate just front to back and they are still quiet just a hint of tread block noise.

The price is great and I am happy with the wear. I will be buying these R-S3's again and again.

The multi-piston calipers use differential piston diameters to precisely manage clamping force across the pad face. Two-piece rotors feature an iron ring under the brake pads for optimum heat dissipation with an aluminum hat to save weight. The iron outer ring is replaceable, while the center hat is retained and bolted to the the new outer ring. Rotors are available in slotted or drilled styles.

For the enthusiast who takes his/her BMW to the track on a regular basis, using the Original Equipment lug bolts can prove to be cumbersome when removing or replacing wheels frequently. In an effort to support our friends that autocross or race their cars at any level, Tire Rack is proud to offer stud conversion kits for your BMW using 14x1.25 thread pitch studs. The standard kit comes with 20 studs, 20 black lug nuts and a heavy-duty thin wall socket (19mm). The premium kit substitutes the black nuts for a more unique polar light finish. I purchased these tires to replace the Michelin Latitude tires on my 2011 Nissan Armada SL 4x4. The tire shop initially refused to put them on the car, saying that the speed and sidewall rating were less than the OEM. I confirmed through several web sites, my Nissan dealership, and Michelin that these tires are appropriate for my Armada.

So far, I love these tires. Even my wife, who doesn't know anything about cars, commented that it feels like she is in 4 wheel drive when using them. They performed great in a 5 inch snowfall earlier in the month. They are very quiet and ride very smooth. I have owned these tires before (on my Toyota Sequoia). While expensive at about $1200 for 4 tires, the quality and tread life are worth it.
