Initial Review, 2,000 Miles on Tires
February 14, 2014

I bought these tires a month ago to replace tires damaged by road debris. These are by FAR the best tires I've had on this car, including OEM Potenzas, Kumho Solus KH16, two sets of General Altimax HP. The General's were pretty good, but wore fast and did not corner/brake on snow well. These Pirelli's are amazing. The car is noticeably quieter and rides smoother -- it's like a new car. We have had a snowy winter so far in CT so I have had many chances to test these on snow and ice. I have had snow tires on other cars that didn't perform this well. Truly impressive. Yesterday I drove up the steep hill to my house on 8 inches of unplowed, unsalted snow without so much as a slip. A Subie and these tires is unstoppable! Very, very happy with this purchase... would buy again in a heartbeat.

Just had these tires put on, and all I can say is wow. These tires are great compared to the Kumho stock tires on my Hyundai. I am very happy with them. Extremely quite, ride is very smooth, handling is terrific. No issues whatsoever. I have only put a 100 miles on them so I can't comment on treadwear and wet conditions yet. But I was compelled to leave a review because these tires are wonderful. Very happy I decided on the Cont. Pure Contacts.

Wow, these tires rock. I have gone through a bunch of different tires on my car (Kumho Ecsta 4x, Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position, Continental ExtremeContact and Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus to name a few). Since I drive aggressively, I don’t get to many miles from my tires.
I live in the northeast and have already experienced 4+ inches of snow with these tires along with icy/slushy hail, and high 70 degree weather (imagine that in DC area in Winter!). These tires are ultra-quite, have great predictability in steering, and awesome performance in snow/ice/dry weather. Even though there more expensive than other tires, I will be making sure to place these on our other cars when those tires wear out (Mustang and Infiniti FX45).
Hopefully Pirelli doesnt stop selling these tires.

Initial Review, 1,500 Miles on Tires
January 08, 2014

As a compact, light weight car owner, safety with good snow traction was my priority of choosing tires. After stopping the entire traffic on both lanes on highway with my previous car spinning 180 degrees on snow several years ago, I have become extremely nervous and afraid of driving on snow. My car requires tire size which are not with abundance of selections, and previous sets of Kumho and Dunlop Dirrezza were absolutely disastrous. Kumho was excellent in summer, but very unstable on snow and hard to stop. Dunlop was way worse. It was basically impossible to control and stop the car on even just lightly covered snow. Just an inch of snow made Dunlop spin without going forward, and I could not stop my car at red lights several times. My husband did not believe me until he drove the car. Dunlop did poorly in rain, too. I think Kumho was much better. I determined that it would be a serious safety issue to continue driving with Dunlop tires, so I was very happy to trade-in those just 5000 mile tires to get a new set of Continental DWS. It was a big instant relief to drive with these tires I actually felt as soon as I started driving. I finally do not feel nervous driving on the snow, and they kept my compact car going when polar Vortex hit Colorado with 5 inches of snow under zero temperature. Looks on the side wall is not that impressive and it did made a slight noise at first, which soon went away. There's no snow tire available for this car as of today, and I think this is the very best I can get for winter driving. This is a new set and I am not quite sure how long it lasts, but I believe Conti offers 50k warranty. I highly recommend this tire.

I recently switched from my Kumho summer tires to my Blizzaks on my 2008 BMW M3. I could not be more impressed by the performance of these tires! It took my m3 from a helpless baby to what could be mistaken as an AWD to unknowing spectators. Takes on steep, snowy driveways like nobodies business. Thoroughly enjoy having my parking spot at the TOP of the driveway back again. Also, with these tires this car is unbelievably fun to whip nuts in parking lots with! People think I'm crazy for driving my car in the winter, but with the fun these tires let me have I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you Bridgestone, you truly improved my winter by 100%.

Worst tires you can possibly use in snow/ice. Does not have any traction and the car won't come to stop, every time you press brakes ABS kicks inn and the car will just slide. Trend wear is not good either, had to change these tires out at 28,000 miles. Went with continental pure contact and they are much better in snow. Hyundai, start using better tires in your cars.

Initial Review, 50,000 Miles on Tires
January 03, 2014

I got two years and 50,000 miles out of these tires and for the most part, I must say that I am pleasantly surprised that they lasted as long as they did. These are the OEM tires on my 2011 Prius 3 and they have been absolutely trouble free from day one but there are good and bad parts about any product so here goes.

The bad:
For those not familiar with the Prius, I need to qualify my minor quibble about the road noise of tires because the Prius is a very quiet car most of the time. At a traffic light the engine turns off so the silence can be eerie. On the highway, the engine shuts off too so you only hear wind and road noise. Since I have 2 Prius' with different tires (the other car has Kumho Solus tires), I can tell the difference easily.

To be clear, this is not a big difference in noise loudness so much as a difference in frequency and feel. The Goodyear tire seems to transmit more vibration as well as road noise.

The good:
Bulletproof. Absolutely bulletproof. In my decade of driving I've never had a tire perform as well over a long period of time. I did not notice a drop off in performance until after 45,000 miles when the traction control beeped during a spirited launch.

Better still, the fuel economy I got with these tires averaged 51mpg over 50,000 miles with best economy at 65mpg (running the car with no heat or a/c typically returns about 58mpg).

Conclusion:
Since I am one to meticulously maintain my vehicle, I attribute that and regularly scheduled tire rotation as one of the factors in this tire's longevity but those factors aside, this is a great tire in my opinion. Although I like this tire, I'm going to try something different next time but if they do not work out I will buy these again for my other Prius.

This set replaced the Dunlop Sport Signatures which lasted about 5 1/2 years or about 40,000 miles with proper tire inflation and regular rotation. Hopefully, these will perform just as good. I've never used of the brand before but because of the price, specs and included road hazard warranty, it's hard to not give it a try. Snow performance and tread life remains to be observed.

alright, just drove from home from work. these tires prior to this drive had just over 400 miles on them, so the tread was well broken in. on this particular drive however, there was 4 inches of snow and counting. the snow was extremely thick, not powder. on this drive, i never once white-knuckled the steering wheel as i had the previous winter on my not so enjoyable tires (kumho solus kh-250). these pirellis inspired confidence in the way i drove. i am very pleased with the winter performance of these tires and cant wait to see how summer goes!

I knew our winter tires were due for replacement and intended to shop around on Tire Rack. We had the Prius in for service at our Toyota dealer when they called me and noted we were down to the wear indicators on our Continental Conti Winter Contact tires. (The Contis had been a good winter tire and I would still consider them) I agreed to have them put on these all season Kumhos. What a mistake. After 27000 miles these tires are shot. Down to the wear indicators. I've just ordered new Pirelli P7 Plus from Tire Rack. No more Kumhos for me.

I bought these before going through a major snow storm in New York and they handled great! Went everywhere in 2wd. The next winter had about 6-7" "which was less in NY storm" of snow and handled great but had to use 4wd, due to the fast tread wear. Did not like the tread wear and cupping on steer tires. Rotate every 5k miles and still got cupping. My alignment is SPOT, SPOT on with in .01 degrees on and all new steering parts before install. I myself am a mechanic for a living and made sure that was all done. Had to adjust rear tire and front tire pressure every rotation to get even wear and try to mitigate the wear issues.

These tires did okay in the mountains and were okay in the mud/wet dirt roads. I do get A LOT A LOT of spinning on wet roads and turns after/during rain conditions. Did not like the longevity of the tires, seemed to be too short for what people were saying they got. Would not recommend these tires for someone looking for a long lasting tire on a truck.

Hope this review helps.

Have put a set of Kumho APT KL51 on my 2002 Volvo XC 70 in early Dec 2013. The car is in Cape Town South Africa, so the driving conditions have been summer like most of the time. Very pleased with tires so far. Only driven 2000 miles, but, the ride comfort, noise and what I would call compliance of the tires are very much to my liking.

For over 10 years I have purchased only Michelins becasue I knew they would track staight, handle well in all conditions, and last for over 60,000 miles. They cost a bit more but I was not willing to take chances based on some poor choices in the past. When it was time to buy tires for our Honda CRV I cringed at paying over $650 installed for the Defenders and I looked for other options. I noticed the Kumho Sense and decided that if I was going to go cheap, I might as well go really cheap so I began to investigate the tire. I could not find any tests, but all of the reviews I could find were positive. The look of the tire reminded me of the Michelin X so I took a chance and purchased a set. So far I could not be more pleased. They track straight, ride well, and handle well in both dry and wet conditions. Every once a while it feels like there is a bit of flex or squirm in the sidewall, but it could just be my imagination because the OEM Bridgestones I replaced were very stiff. I would like to see a Tire Rack Test to verify my assessment. I would buy these tires again and recommend them without hesitation. I have also never written a review of any product but I felt that others could benefit from my experience due to the lack of available test data. Again, you will not regret buying a set of these tires. They perform very well and this is from a die-hard Michelin guy.

Just got these installed today and I'm shocked to notice that they are noticeably quieter than that Michelins. It seems that at about 60 they kinda shake a bit but I'm figuring they may still be waiting to be broken in. Haven't been in any rain to get a rate on that side but I'm a bit fearful after reading previous reviews about how they did handle in the rain. Just praying on that end.

First set of Kumho tires I've ever purchased and I'm very pleased so far. There is a limited selection of tires for an E34 Touring, and when Michelin quit making these size tires, I purchased Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum. They are quiet, handling is excellent, and they perform fine in heavy rain. The BMW tech was surprised at how little weight correction was needed to bring them into perfect balance. No abnormal wear or issues at 4,000 miles. They cost substantially less than equivalent speed rating Michelin tires. I only averaged 50,000 miles or so on several sets of Michelin Grand Touring tires before they needed replacement for hydroplaning reasons, so I'm anxious to see the final mileage I achieve on these Kumho tires.

I did a lot of reading before selecting these tires. I needed to replace the Kumho's that came standard on my Sonata. The original tires were the worst I've ever encountered in snow. I was afraid that all my research on buying the Sonata was wrong. I live in New York and although we don't get a lot of snow, the past two years have been above average. The new Continental tires on my car made a world of difference. We just got 14" of snow and my car went everywhere I asked, without spinning and sliding. I was not driving through 14" of snow, but the plowing still left a lot of snow on the ground and did not cause me any problems. I would not recommending these tires, or buying them again. The only thing that I cannot comment on is the tread-life and I've only put about 5,000 miles on them so far. I hope this has been beneficial.

I'm having trouble closing the gap between most other reviews, Tire Racks test of this tire, and my experience. Replaced the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE92's with these and the ride is a little softer and much quieter, but steering response is terrible. I'm seeing few complaints of this in the reviews, and Tire Rack puts steering response as one of the strong points of the tire, but I can drive down the highway, wiggle the steering wheel, and feel the car yaw like a boat. It's a similar feeling to when I drive my parents 12 yr old Buick LeSabre, not really an acceptable driving characteristic in anything in a "performance" category. Outright grip when cornering and braking seems good, but again, any steering inputs mid corner result in a delay while the outside tires load up, then the requested change in direction. Maybe I was spoiled by the rock hard sidewalls of the run-flat Bridgestones, but I find it hard to believe all tires in this category behave like this.

December 21, 2011

I bought these tires for my 02 GMC 1500HD Crew Cab 4x4. The look is awesome but as soon as I switched my for these my gas mileage dropped bad. My mileage went from 10 city 19 highway to 8.5 city and 12.5 highway. By my calculations I will use an extra 1400 Gal of gas, yes 1400 Gal compared to my older tires durring the life of the tire. The cool looks are not worth the SEVERE loss in gas mileage. I have driven about 6000 miles and the tread is only worn about 3/32 which is not bad for a M/T tire. I rotate my tires every oil change which is 3000 miles. The noise level is starting to get worse with the more mileage that I put on these tires. I used the chalk trick to find the correct air pressure which was 45 in the front and 35 in the rears for even tread wear.

Best 10 Ply Tires

Friday, May 31, 2013 by Steve Huffman

Do you need 10 ply tires? What is Load Range E? If you're not familiar with these tire terms, don't worry, we can help. Most 3/4- and 1-ton trucks are going to require a Load Range E, also known as a 10 ply tire, for proper load carrying capacity. Many drivers of half-ton trucks also prefer them while towing due to their stiffer sidewall which helps prevent swaying.

One of our best sellers is the Firestone Transforce HT. This Highway All-Season tire has been around for awhile because of its all-season traction, long treadlife and dependability. The tire is available in many popular truck sizes and is offered with a 30 Day Buy & Try Guarantee.

Are you looking for a tire that's more suitable for off-road use. If so, one of my favorite options is the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac. This tire features a rugged tread compound that helps resist tread block chipping, chunking and tearing, especially during heavy loading and towing applications. Wrangler DuraTrac tires are also branded with the mountain/snowflake symbol to identify they meet industry severe snow service standards. They are also designed to accept optional #16 metal studs to enhance ice traction.

Another great value option is Kumho's Road Venture APT KL51. The tire offers excellent all-season traction with a relatively smooth and quiet ride. When we tested the tire, we liked that it provided great traction in the dry and wet.
