Initial Review, 1,000 Miles on Tires
June 26, 2014

I have recently installed these tires on my Focus and they are great! They are better than the Goodyear Eagle RS-A's that I previously had. I have only had them for about a month but so far, they have been stellar in heavy rain as well as dry roads. These tires inspire confidence and I will buy these tires again. Hopefully I get more mileage out of these than I did with the Goodyear's. The Goodyear's were good for the first 20k miles but then the performance exponentially declined shortly after. Thus far, the Altimax's have proven themselves better than the Goodyear's that they replace. Updates to follow after I put more mileage on them.

Excellent in all applicable categories, haven't had them long enough to rate them for winter performance. I will append my review next spring, but I expect performance will be extremely good. They are super quite, and have surprisingly good lateral stability for not being a low profile tire.

I tow 3tons daily. So lets get to it. From standing start on a hill w/trailer, no slip where other tires have. Secure in rain at 60mph in a turn w/trailer. With 700lb tongue weight never had problem in snow. And when I need to brake; SAFE! Mileage has been bested with about 17K (one manufacturer only lasted 6k) and higher mpgs on Generals. I've tried many tires over 150000 trailering miles, Generals gives the best bag for my working dollar.

What an amazing tire! Put a set (265 rear, 225 front) on newly bought used Porsche 911 cabriolet. Only 4000 mi so far but great performance. Amazing stability on wet roads (I mean Florida downpour wet).Found myself at 70+ mph with no hydroplane feeling. Wouldn't recommend it though for general safety. This is my 3rd 911. Have had them all. Yokohama, Parelli, Michelin. These are the best! Wear looks great. Will return with review after a few more thousand.

I bought these to replace my General GMAX AS-03. The first thing I want to say is that you get what you pay for with these tires. They are not cheap, but don't let that scare you. I didn't think it was possible for a tire to be this sticky while providing almost touring levels of noise and comfort. Compared to the General tires that I had, these are whisper quiet and have tons more grip. Their feedback is also very nice. You can hear them chirp a little as you approach maybe 80% of their capability and you can just keep going even harder. They're extremely predictable. It's obscene the speed at which you can hit interstate clover-type interchanges with these tires, and you can do it with confidence. Honestly, the limit of these is so far beyond my Generals that I haven't even reached it on the road, which is probably a good thing.

Wet handling is impressive. The treads pump away all the water in their path and let you drive in the wet with confidence that you can still stop faster and maneuver better than any other car around you. They give you that extra margin of safety of 10-15ft shorter stopping distance compared to other all-seasons. That's enough to easily save you from a fender bender. These are not a license to drive fast in the wet, it just makes your normal drive that much easier and safer.

I haven't had the opportunity to use these in the snow, but I'm not concerned. No AS tire is really viable in real snow. As far as I have read, these Michelins are to be considered a 3 season tire in the North and all-season without snow in the South. I can't get away with a summer tire year round since the temps drop well below freezing for months at a time, but I can't justify the cost of keeping two sets of tires. It also almost never snows here so snow tires are not an option. If you live south of Atlanta or Birmingham, I'd say you might be able to get away with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. People in Florida and SoCal, should definitely be picking that tire.

Great tire for a great price . Traction is not an issue even at 20k miles these tires are on a farm truck that gets used everywhere, on and off the road highway and heavy towing. I pull a fully loaded trailer weighing 18k less the truck in and out of fields seasonally and traction is never an issue . Will probably get another 10 -15k out of them before needing new one's

This is a long lasting tire that performs well in varied conditions. In truth, I probably did not exploit its potential very often except on occasional tight on-ramps where grip and stability matter the most. I did notice that the shoulders wore out first, long before the centre of the tread and I attribute this to driving style. The Hankook Ventus V12 Evo is a good tire. When I replaced it I went for something a little softer and quieter and frankly I don't notice the replacement being much quieter. High performance tires generate more noise along with more grip. High mileage tires generate more compliance, less noise, and a softer ride. It is tough to find the perfect tire and this one is probably as good as it gets for versatility, sporty handling, and long life.

I've enjoyed having these tires on my car. They seem to be wearing very well, they are a quiet and comfortable tire. I live in a dry climate so no reports for heavy rain or snow. Moderate rain performance has been good. Handle the twisties very well!! Good job General!
