Initial Review, 500 Miles on Tires
May 14, 2014

After 2 weeks of driving and one autocross, my reservations about this tire have receded. I read the reviews and felt comfortable enough to purchase them, mainly because they were the only tires that worked for autoX that were in my size. My concern stemmed from most reviews were on light cars and Mustang is much heavier. After an my last autocross, I am very happy with them. The weather changed from sunny and warm to cloudy and overcast and I felt very little change in the grip and feel of the tire. The OEM Pirellis were much more sensitive to weather changes and did not provide the same grip. Needless to say I am very happy with my choice.

BLUF: I think these tires are awesome. The OEM Continental Sport Contact 3s got a flat; and also were wearing a little weird too at around 20k. So I told the wife since I was deployed to get them replaced with these (new for 2013) Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3s. Since I was away from home I had her send me some pics of them mounted and I was happy with how they looked. She said that she couldn't tell a difference from the Summer Tire Contis. I got home in February and took the S4 for a spirited drive and was extremely satisfied. Tire rack stated these were as close to a summer tire as an all-season could hope to be and they were right. Clearly not as sticky as summers but I'm not tracking or auto-crossing anyway so it didn't matter to me. The ride is great, handles great, and they have been quiet so far. I'm hoping the 500 Tread wear rating holds firm as I'd like to get more than 20k from a tire on this car. I plan on rotating every 5k, front to back and I will update a the 20k mark.

I purchased these tires used from a friend who is a very reputable auto mechanic. I didn't know whether they would be very good to run in the winter as the tread was down to only about 25%. However after going through one of the worst winters here in Wisconsin. I was very surprised how well they performed. I would have preferred more tread but they pulled me through all the deep snow and ice covered roads with no problem at all. I am running into a bit of a problem when running in rutted roads during a rain storm. They want to hydroplane some but there almost down to the wear bars so I mostly attribute it to that. I would certainly highly recommend buying a set of these tires. I suspect I should be able to run them a while longer however am looking at buying a new set. The price for a new set really is fairly affordable compared to other tire brands. Before this set I ran a set of Uniroyal Laredo tires which didn't even make it past 35,000 before they needed to be replaced. With the Bf Goodrich tires I haven't run into any problems with irregular wear due to alignment issues which I struggled with on my last set. Overall I am pleased to say that by picking this tire you will make a good choice for your hard earned dollar. For a more aggressive tire you will be pleased with how quiet they are while running down the road.

My car came oem equipped with 225/50/17 tires. To give my car a better 'stance', I up'd the tires size to a 55 series so the 'fender-to-tire' distance wouldn't be so large. In doing so, the Optimo727 was my pick of choice since it was a well rated cheap tire that had good wear numbers. Boy am I glad I did! The factory Michelin tires couldn't even start to compare in ride comfort to these tires. The 727s made my car actually ride like a Lincoln should. They are whisper quiet, buttery smooth on the highway, handle great on dry corners, and have a nice tread design. Even after 20k miles, these tires look new! With the way I drive, I can easily get 70k from these tires. This past January I had the opportunity to drive this car from north MS to Detroit, Michigan to the auto show. While on my trip, snowy roads plagued the entire journey. These tires performed flawlessly throughout it all. Not once did I feel uncomfortable driving at 70mph on the snow. I bet I saw 30 cars and trucks go into the median, but I felt secure with these tires. These tires have definitely made me a believer in the Hankook brand, and I look forward to purchasing another set when these wear out. I've read on here where people whine and complain about how noise gets more pronounced as these tires age... So?! Doesn't everything get a bit louder as it gets worn? If I can get 60-70k reliable well performing miles from a set of 'cheap' brand name tires, I promise I'm not gonna complain about it going "woopwoop". And I'd like to bet that the ones who DO complain about their Prius's tires getting a bit noisy with age, are probably the same kinda people who complain about how their FlipFlops give them sores when they go jogging... Ya gotta match the product to the situation it's gonna be used in! This is a soft riding luxury touring tire meant for heavier vehicles. Not a Low Rolling Resistance hybrid tire for light cars! I'll Happily slap on another set of these bad boys when the time comes. They're great!

For the winter this tire is the best tire I have ever bought. I bought these tires for winter driving only. The one problem with these tires is on dry pavement and when you have the transfer case in Auto or 4 wheel the front tires fight against the rear tires causing a popping sound and feel in the front end. I have taken it to my auto dealer and had the front differential and transfer case torn apart and inspected and found no problems. The dealer put on some less aggressive tires and there was no popping sound. With these tires you need to drive in 2 wheel when you are on dry pavement.

Fantastic tire. Very, very sticky in the dry. If your temps are near 40F, they're just blocks of rubber; but you already knew that if you're researching summer tires. An astonishing amount of grip in aggressive off & on ramp and back roads carving. Haven't taken the car to auto-x yet with the tires, but I'm looking forwards to it since the street driving hasn't been anything but rewarding so far. Looking forwards to seeing how quickly I can find their limit on the course.

WOW... WOW... 1 more...WOW !!! Just got them yesterday (33/12.5/15's/Kevlar) & they have passed every test w/flying colors... Replaced the "Old-Tread" w/the new "Kevlar" & could not be happyer, We could hardly hear them at all @ 75 mph on the Hwy ... Had a "Monsoon" in the afternoon & went for a "Test-Ripp"... Great over standing water on road... Than we went to the local wash & my 98 GRAND CHEROKEE (ZJ) 5.2 AWD/Auto has never went up that stuff as easy before... They "Dig" & "Float" over the softest sand... Than we headed for the MUD...WOW !!! I thought the old MT/Rs did good, @ 20 lbs, but the "New Tread" @ 36 lbs is WAY BETTER... I hardly hit the skinny-pedal & they were "Flinging" & they track fantaitic, No "Drift" in 6 to 12++ inches of "Sloppy Mud" (That same mud filled the old tread to the point of no control & my JEEP would go where it wanted) We had total control... I would guess with the "Extra Tread" down the center of the tire these will last about 3X longer or more than the old tread... We have 1 more test left for today, "Aired Down" on the "Rocks" (Witch is where we spend most of our WHEELIN time) & if they handle the rocks like the old tread I know I will be very pleased... (I will up-date when we get back if I can) As acting VP. of the local Off-Road club, I will tell everyone I know that these are "The Ones" to buy if they are in need of "New Shoes" for ANY of thier rig's...WOW !!!

Traction is excellent but after 17k miles the noise level has been difficult to tolerate. I have some tread left after 20k miles but will be selling my car. Overall I'd recommend the tire.

Car came with Dunlop tires. I cannot believe Lexus put those tires on this car. I got rid of them at 25K. I have a 2000 LX 470 and have always been happy with the LTX M/S. These tires are even better. There is nothing bad about this tire. Bought at Tire Rack. Had dealer mount 'em. Better everything: handling, ride, traction and even gas mileage. I hunt, so in addition to city/highway, I do cornfields, creeks and every other type of off-road driving that can be found in the Midwest. The only thing that keeps me from buying a Range Rover Sport is that I cannot find these tires for that truck. I still have my LX 470 and still use the LTX M/S on that truck (it has 287K). I'm not necessarily a Michelin freak. My wife has a Lexus RX and I'm putting Continentals on that. But for the larger SUVs, the LTX M/S is fantastic tire. I like the M/S 2 better than the M/S, but they don't make it for the '00 LX470. When my friends are stuck in their Range Rovers, I'm going strong, mainly because of the traction these tires afford. On the highway, rain, snow, and sun, the tires handle well and are quiet. I'm 63 and have driven a car/truck farther in reverse than most have driven in forward. These tires are simply the best. If they make 'em to fit your vehicle, buy them. You will thank me. I promise. And I don't work for Michelin or anybody else in any auto related industry.

I purchased these tires for my 06 impreza 2.5i and have had them on for 10k miles now and I couldnt be happier with them. They are a comfy ride and traction is pretty good in all conditions. I rotate my tires properly every 4-5k miles and I check the tread every so often and they seem to be wearing at a normal rate. No issues at all. Its a solid tire all around folks. If your looking for a super grippy, stiff tire for street racing and auto x then keep looking. This tire is perfect for all-weather driving as well as some aggressive driving:) Dont listen to all the negative reviews. If you rotate your tires and keep them inflated properly then you will have no issues with these kooks!

Since I have put these tires on the weather in Michigan has been BRUTAL . extreme cold , deep snow , ice .. everything you can think of . Now back to wet right around freezy temp . I am blown away by the performance of these tires & I have had them on various vehicles for 10 + years . Maybe 4 + sets on trucks , SUV's etc . Yes the Audi has AWD but it is not true AWD it is Torsen . Anyway I have a slight slope on my drive maybe 20* . Tonight I stop on the max slope on a frozen patch Complete ice ) to see what happens driving up hill . Zip ... no problem right into the garage .. not even traction control comes on . Then early this week we get 18 " in 2 days . Plow guy truck breaks , I back right out turn around & gone , no lie . Get em they are worth every penny & fairly quiet also . I am an engineer in auto for 30 years & completely without bias .

Wanted to wait a little to review these, so far, about 1,500 miles on them. Love them. Was running the Conti DWS's. I really wanna say these have a stiffer sidewall, they corner A LOT better, and the ride is a lot quieter. Plowed down a 4ft snowbank during the last snowstorm NY saw, helped get a Hyundia out of that snowbank. Had no problem driving in a foot-foot and half of snow. Awesome tire. Looking forward to trying them out during AutoX this summer.

I have this tire on all family vehicles and three vehicles of my adult children on wheels using from December through March in Iowa. Your surveys indicate it is either tied for superior to any and all other winter tires you sell and I would strongly agree with those surveys. I have used this tire for so many years the it used to be named Winterfire. I have referred this tire to many others, to many to cound after allowing them to drive my car when I have them mounted. Every single one of them eventually purchase this tire for their autos. My wife's 1999 Dodge Intrepid FWD has them and it surpasses performance of most 4WD vehoicles under any winter condition it Iowa. Anyone and everyone who lives in a area with winter conditions should consider this tire or at a minimum another winter tire from your seletion.

Initial Review, 200 Miles on Tires
February 02, 2014

I only have a short time on the tires. I planned on driving the Expedition 1000mi a year but it might be more now that I've driven it a bit.

I used the vehicle during a pretty bad snow storm, rain, and of course in dry conditions. I also got to drive the OEM tires on the Expedition before this one. I also got to drive a similar year Explorer with all season tires in the snow back to back with the Expedition (same 1/4 mile in snow/sleet-then-frozen road conditions).

For winter use in the Explorer with all seasons (OEM tires) not only did the Explorer not respond well to any steering or braking input but on our very steep driveway the Explorer slid off the pavement and into the grass/deep-snow. I also had a hard time keeping the Explorer from sliding to the right due to the crown of the road (base layer of frozen sleet covered with hard pack snow, plus it was snowing). I was switching vehicles so I parked the Explorer and drove back the Expedition. Absolutely no problems accelerating, stopping (I did a brake check). I also went up and down our driveway to see if I'd have the same situation sliding down the driveway since the next morning I'd have my family in the Expedition. Not only did I have total control (this is literally 5 minutes later) but I could actually stop directly on the steep part of the driveway.

I also forgot to put it in the auto 4WD mode because I forgot - I drove it in 2WD (aka RWD) without any problems early the next morning.

The tires are also much quieter than the (not sure of age) OEM tires, respond significantly better on the few exit ramps I've taken, and are noticeably more comfortable. I'm very happy with the tires and would get them again.

Note: This is my first SUV so although I enjoy driving it's been interesting learning how a larger SUV drives/handles. Previously I've owned a large van along with regular compact cars, but I'm not used to the slower response of the large SUV.

Initial Review, 150 Miles on Tires
January 16, 2014

Just installed these yesterday so this is an initial review. I'm recently retired from the tire and auto service business so you can bet I'm pretty picky about tires. These Primacy MXM4's replaced a set of HX MXM4's that had given good service. I found a great installer through Tire Rack that had a Hunter road force balancer and a clean, modern shop. The new tires all had the same manufacturing date of the 49th week of 2013 from a US plant. Fresh tires indeed!

I was pleasantly surprised by how well these tires balanced out. Road force variation was extremely low. One of them took no balance weight at all, the others only needed minimal weight ( 15, 25 and 35 grams total). This speaks well of the tire quality and the quality of the original equipment Lexus wheels.

The new tires drove perfectly. Absolutely zero vibration, shimmy or directional pulling. That is real important to me. I was the go-to guy for ride and alignment complaints at work. Sure glad I don't have to deal with it on these tires. I replace my own tires at about 5/32" so the old HX MXM4's were in their dry road handling prime. The new Primacy's at full tread depth don't feel quite as grippy or responsive but they are so quiet on textured surfaces and so smooth over surface imperfections that the trade-off is well worth it. I'm sure grip and responsiveness will improve with a bit of wear and scrubbing in. Overall this is an outstanding tire for this car.

Tires were purchased to maintain the handling potential of the car. The tires are not smooth, that said, the suspension of the car contributes to the roughness of the ride. I am perfectly satisfied with the ride and expect such a ride with the car and the superior handling tires. I purchased the tires after they were discounted after a newer model was introduced. I did not need state of the art performance tires and the discounted price allowed me to purchase what I consider a high end performance tire. I would buy these tires again (for the discounted price). I no longer autocross but expect my car to be auto cross capable and these Bridgestone's provide the capability.

The tires are not dry rotting and have only given up a little bit of dry traction off the line over the years. Just took them Auto crossing last weekend and the tires still have a ton of grip and handle the abuse. Great tire!

Initial Review, 5,000 Miles on Tires
April 07, 2013

I have always prefered a Michelin tire, and have had great service from them over the years. The prices are high, and I have wondered if part of that is paying for the name? A few years ago, we purchased a new truck with General tires on it, and the tires performed flawlessly. In fact those 11 year-old Generals were are currently on a farm trailer, and show no signs of dry rot, or other problems. After much thought, I decided to give these Generals a try. These tires are very quiet and smooth. They have great resistance to hydroplaning, which is a feature that I like a lot. The tires are not great in the snow, but than a V-8 powered RWD car is not so great in the snow either. I have a designated AWD winter vehicle, so winter traction does not matter to me. We live in the mountains with lots of winding roads, and tires get punished around here. I have the car set up with a stiff aftermarket suspension, so it rides harsh and corners like a sports car. The car no longer handles like a traditional Crown Victoria. Infact this car has seen an AutoCross track more then once... The OE tires where very soft and the car had a tendency to oversteer with them on it. These tires take the curves very well. So far they have passed the test. I plan to purchase three more sets, one for my wife's Crown Vic, and two sets for our two vintage Pontiac Trans AM show cars. For the price, nothing else compares. General seems to have hit the mark!
