February 26, 2014

I have over 220,000 miles on my Golf and have had Goodyear Eagle LS, BF Goodrich Traction TA (twice) and a Kuhmo tire (don't remember which one) and this Yokahama is BY FAR the best tire I've ever had on this car!
I cannot believe the traction it has in not only the wet, but the snow is really good. It feels like a full-blown snow tire to me.
Dry traction and handling is much better than any of the other tires I've had on the car. The sidewall doesn't roll-over during hard cornering (sorry, I'm a licensed SCCA driver so all of my cars go around corners quickly LOL).
Noise is hard to say, it's a 2000 VW Golf so it's not the quietest car to start with. Noise from the tires doesn't seem too bad at all.
All I can say is, this tire is night and day different than any of the other tires I've tried. You really should try them.

I bought these to replace the BF Goodrich tires that came with the car. Those tires still had plenty of tread, but we could not pull out from a stop sign if the road was a little wet without spinning the tires. Our minivan drives COMPLETELY differently with these tires. These tires grip so much better than our old ones and I am extremely satisfied with them. I feel much safer while driving the car now and I am more relaxed knowing my wife has excellent tires to ferry the kids around with. I have been surprised on more than one occasion when I thought the tires would not have enough traction to make it up a snow covered hill, only to walk right up the hill like it was nothing.

The ONLY downside I have with this tire is the cost. We got them when they were $150 a tire and I personally believe they are worth every penny, but I wouldn't have minded not spending as much on the tires so I could have put it towards an alignment or something else.

I was torn between these tires and and the Firestone Winterforce. I had the Winterforce tires on another vehicle of mine which was a Buick Lesabre the Winterforce made my Lesabre a tank in the snow I always felt safe and in control in any winter driving condition but the tires had to be switched out after winter. I wanted a winter tire that had some all season characteristics so I took a chance on these Goodyears and was immediately impressed they were quieter than the BF Goodrich tire that I had just taken off the car the sidewall is softer than an all-season tire but that is to be expected. I previously had Michelin's winter ice tires on this car for twice the cost the only thing I can say that was better about the Michelins they had a stiffer sidewall. These Goodyear tires so far have more then met my expectations. We have been hammered with lots of snow and sub zero temps in Minnesota this year and the Goodyears have performed flawlessly. I can't recommend these tires enough!

Bought these for my wife's 2013 Explorer Limited. I had to drop down to the base 17" wheel size due to the lack of available snow tires in her 20" wheel size. I've used BF Goodrich on most of my 4x4 trucks and these are certainly the best road tire I've used! I live overseas where marble is used as an aggregate for the roads and these grip the road like no other tire I've used. It handles snow and ice with ease and even grips well in the mud.

The only down side is the road noise. It's not bad at all but you will hear them. After 2500 miles on them it hasn't changed much. Good trade in my opinion for a tire that you can feel confident driving on in bad weather.

I have a 2011 F-150 supercab 4x4 with the 5.0, i have the 275-55-20's. I got over 66,000 miles on these tires. They were awesome until about 45,000 miles then seemed to lose their traction in the rain. they are very quiet and resist punctures. I had them rotated every 5000 miles with my oil changes by the ford dealer. They are way better then the good years which are so loud they will give you a headache. they have outlasted any other tire i have ever owned. They are better then any other tire on dry pavement, but the BF Goodrich all terrain t/a's are much better in the sand and mud if you can take the noise. The only down fall is the price.

In the past I have run Goodyear, BF Goodrich and Michelin Tires on my SUVs. This tire is far superior to the others with respect to wet traction and hydroplaning in standing water, which living in Florida during the rainy season one encounters on sometimes a daily basis. I got approximately 42000 miles off my last set, never rotated them because they all wore perfectly, and they probably had another 5000 miles left on them when I replaced them. This is a reasonably priced tire, and I am very satisfied with its looks and performance. I would definitely buy them again.

I got these tires last March to replace nearly 8 year old BF Goodrich tires( great tires). The price was good for the tires and will probably be the last tires I buy for the car as its now almost 15 years old.
The traction in rain is excellent and the one or two slushy wet snows were good but they haven't really been tested in snow yet. The noise level is good. But the ride over bumps and ruts is pretty harsh. I'd probably buy different tires that road better and handled shocks better but the tires have given good road grip and handling on roads in dry and rain.

This is a really great tire. So good, i just bought a new truck, and immediately had its stock tires swapped out for these Destination A/Ts. I had 37,000 miles on them when I sold the truck, and they still had between 8/32" and 9/32" tread left. That's more than 50%! They would have easily lasted past 55k before i would have wanted to take them off. When they were new, they were excellent in the snow- recent snowfalls I can tell they're slipping a little, but still get the job done safetly. But hey, 37k on them, it's expected. I did a lot of highway driving with these tires, and they are smooth and quite. They did not affect my gas mileage, as some people have claimed. I drive in the sand a lot in the summer, and I've never gotten stuck once, even on a sandy uphill slope, from a dead stop, they pull you forward. I've owned a lot of mud tires in the past, including the Destination M/T. These A/Ts perform surprisingly well in all condition. They're no M/T, but they're pretty close. I recently considered going to the BF Goodrich all-terrain KOs, just to switch it up. I knew what to expect because I've owned them in the past, but I honestly believe that the Destination A/T is an equally effective tire in most normal conditions. I just couldnt bring myself to spend $80 more per tire for the BFs. The value for the Firestone is the best, in my opinion vs virtually every comparable tire out there. $145/ tire is great!!! I'm a tire fanatic, this is my second set of destination A/Ts and my 4th set of firestones. Highly recommended.

January 24, 2014

I've owned a lot of cars and a lot of different tires: Michelin, Dunlop, Continental, Pirelli, Semperit, Bridgestone, Falken, Goodyear, BF Goodrich, Firestone, Uniroyal. The only tires I've ever owned that were a close match to these were a set of Semperit M-401's I owned back in the late 70's. I put these tires on my front drive Volvo S60. I drive fairly hard and I have yet to get a squeal out of these on a curve on dry pavement. The car is like it's on rails. Very solid on wet roads where they feel almost as secure as on dry pavement. I've experienced no indication of hydroplaning. They will lose traction a bit when starting up quickly on wet pavement, but squeal almost like they would on dry pavement when doing so. We've been having a bit of a wild winter here in the mid-atlantic and I've gotten caught out in some fairly substantial snow several times over the past few weeks. A couple of times I've had to stop on steep hills behind other cars that have gotten stuck. In every case I've been able to wait for traffic to clear and drive right around the stuck car(s) with little effort, at times having to use the uncleared shoulder to get through. They aren't snow tires, but they're darned close. These replaced a set of Michelins and I've seen no noticeable change in fuel economy, but the car noticeably rides and handles better. Compared to the Michelins they replaced these tires seem to ride more smoothly over small imperfections, but slighty more harshly over large bumps and potholes. They are very quiet. I'm not able to rate tread life as I've only had them for a couple of thousand miles, but I am so impressed that I wanted to get this review out on the web for the benefit of others. Highly recommended.

Initial Review, 40,000 Miles on Tires
April 12, 2013

I live in Philadelphia where we get the full affect of all four seasons. I use these tires from early November till late February depending on the weather. I had these tires on during the blizzard of 2011. Where we got the most snow ever recorded! Over 3 feet. Needless to say I'm extremely happy with the performance of these tires. I also had these tires on during Hurricane Sandy. I was driving through water for a solid month with these tires from 3 feet deep in some areas i was driving through, it handled great. Never hydroplaned or flattened out. I've taken these tires to places i should've never gone, places where i could've been stuck in the snow for days and i returned. That says a whole lot. On dry land they're incredibly quiet, although i gave the cornering rating a 5 it really isn't so bad. The only problem is if your cornering and hit a bump in the road the soft tread waves the truck a little bit. It will regain traction but it does slightly wave to the side. If changing lanes at a higher speed and hit a bump it will slightly wave then regain traction. If you take it easy and drive normal i guarantee you'll love these tires. The rest of the year I use the BF Goodrich T/A KO black sidewall tires. Those are great also.

Very DISSAPOINTED ! I purchased these BF Goodrichs expecting to at least get close to their warranty of 65,000 miles , WRONG ! I now have just over 40k on them and they need to be replaced ! I started noticing the wear when my truck would break loose with a little rain shower (around 30k miles) have religiously had the rotated balanced and alignment every other year. Also this is the only tire I have ever been able to see the bulging where the two molds form the tire distinctively ! BF Goodrich has a quality control issue and doesn't deserve my hard earned money for the garbage they manufacture !!!

Great tires so far. Best off road traction tire I have used and my last 2 mud tires were BF goodrich M/t and Maxxis mudders. The difference is very pronounced and the tires are also very affordable. I can go up a pretty steep, rocky, rutted wet hill in 2wd (rear locker) that it took 4x4 with the Maxxis. Only about 5,000 miles but I rated them a 10 on wear cause they still look new. Maybe there are better off road tires made. I haven't found any, but for 99% of folks out there the combination of performance and price can't be beat. I'm 100% satisfied with the tires and Tire Rack.

Bought the BF Goodrich Radial T/A tire for my GMC Sierra 1500 2WD standard cab stepside pickup as a replacement for Goodyear Eagle GT tires that I religiously ran on for many years (only to learn that Goodyear stopped making that tire in a 15" when it came time to replace them.) I wanted the White Letter tire and as many of you are finding out, 15" RWL this is becoming a dying breed.

This was the first set of BF Goodrich's I have ever owned and I was pleasantly surprised how much better and smoother they ride vs the Goodyears. Dry pavement driving is great, and wet pavement is good and acceptable. I typically tone it down in wet weather just because you can't expect a light truck to handle like a car due to the light rear end.

The raised white lettering is not quite as big as what Goodyear does and the BF Goodrich positioning of the letters are closer to the rim, vs Goodyear, which positions the lettering closer towards the treads. Not really a big deal to some, but if you have attention to detail like I do, its worth noting the appearance difference. Also as a notation, the tire shop filled my BF Goodrich tires with Nitrogen instead of air.

After having owned these tires for over 6 months, I wished I had switched to them earlier based on their ride and appearance. Unless something unforeseen happens, I would be likely to repurchase and recommend to a friend

I have had my TL for nearly 10 years and 175K miles. During that time, the only real complaint I had was it chew up tires. I generally got 18-20K per set, no matter the brand (Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, BF Goodrich, Yokahama), but I got 30K out of my first set of these Continentals (50% more miles and much more reasonable cost, with no performance loss at all!). Could not be more pleased.

I have read other reviews that these tires tend to hydroplane, but they have never done so with me. I live in Central NY where we average 150 inches of snow a year and I have never even been close to being stuck and have pulled many others out of ditches. Granted I drive an FJ Cruiser with all the bells and whistles, but the tires get some credit. The noise level is surprisingly low. I don't even notice any noise, but maybe I'm used to it. The best thing about these tires is the wear great. I have over 77K miles on them and will probably get close to 80K by the time a change them out. I will definitely get another set. Before this vehicle I had a Nissan Xtera that also had BF Goodrich tires (not sure of model but were a less aggressive tire) that also got over 70K.

I have used various tires on this vehicle (Eagle GA, Eagle Hp, Bf Goodrich traction TA). For the price this is by far the best tire I have bought. I drive in a spirited manner, and on dry pavement these tires are accomodating. Turn in is responsive and predictable, traction is adequate, and holds well in corners. Wet traction is good when the tires are new, but hydroplaning increases markedly with wear. Winter driving is barely acceptable; I would recommend a dedicated set of winter tires if you experience more than occasional light winter weather with these tires. Additionally, these tires are comparatively quiet and comfortable.

Now, I said probably not but them mainly because I would get the mud terrain brethern bf goodrich mud terrain ko. I think that the tires are amazing. They have wonderful traction in every condition on the road, and I try to drive as "spirited" as possible, giving the road conditions. They do provide a heavy duty resistance, curb hopping, driving through pot holes and poorly paved roads. My tie rods gave out before these tires with no gashes. My jeep has an absurd amount of road noise, but they are not from my tires! I would put these on my truck, and my tahoe, but not for a vehicle that regularly plays in the mud. Mud just gets trapped in the treads and it is like wheeling with slicks. They are all terrains an not mud terrains. for every instance on adn off road with out mud these tires are superb!

Here's an update. Purchased these tires in November when there was no snow in MI. Now it is February and it has been snowing for a couple weeks. Tires behave excellent on the snowy roads. I drive 30 mi to and from work and have experience with various vehicles that I drove and tested due to my work. I know my car very well. What can I say? Michelin is the best and that's all. Excellent ride in the snow with the Defenders. I would like to see them on my future personal car. It is absolutely better than BF Goodrich, Bridgestone, Conti or Yokohama that I have had. Absolutely buy!!!
