Steel Wheels in Stock for VW GTI

Wednesday, October 24, 2012 by Ben Rooney

The current Volkswagen GTI is one of the most popular cars in the hatchback segment. It usually comes equipped with either summer tires from Bridgestone or all-season options from Pirelli or Dunlop. While these tires work well in the warmer months, they do not have much focus on snow traction. Which means purchasing a Winter / Snow Tire & Wheel Package is your best bet for handling the toughest conditions winter has to offer.

For the driving enthusiast on a budget, buying steel wheels with your winter GTI tires can help keep the total cost down. Tire Rack currently has 16x6.5" steel wheels in stock that fit the GTI priced at $58 each (price and availability accurate as of 10/19/12). These wheels will not only fit the GTI, but many other Volkswagen and Audi applications using the 5x112 bolt pattern, including the A3, A4, new (2012+) Beetle, Passat, Golf and Jetta.

Winter weather hasn't yet arrived, but winter / snow tire season is in full swing. Many winter items are stocked seasonally, and October is often the month where we have the widest selection in stock. So be prepared this winter by purchasing early so you'll get the tires and wheels you want.

I recently purchased a set of 4 steelies for my 03 Jetta TDI and I am very pleased with them....QUESTION....TireRack says you cannot use OE VW hubcaps for these wheels/rims....Besides looking for 15" hubcaps is there some other criteria I need to know for a hubcap to fit on the steelies?....Thanks
Monday, November 25, 2013 by ben@tirerack:
Many OE hubcaps have holes for the lug nuts to go through. Most of the steel wheels that we sell are designed for a hubcap that fits over the lug nuts instead and clips on to the edge of the wheel. Other than that, there is nothing special to look for.

hI I HAVE A 2006 audi s4 and wanted to see if these steels would work on my car with snow tires. The kicker is that I have the bigger brakes than the typical a4. is this an issue and could it still work?
Thursday, September 25, 2014 by ben@tirerack:
Mark, the big brakes can be an issue. If you use the 'winter snow tire and wheel package' link above it will show you all available wheels that can fit your Audi.
