Tire Rack One Lap of AmericaSpring is here and all that goes with it. Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and tires are screaming in anguish. The annual rite of spring here at Tire Rack is the One Lap of America competition, which kicks off and concludes with skidpad challenges here on our test track.

In the weeks and months leading up to the event, competitors call us to talk about tire selections for their vehicles. Since the drivers have to use the same tires for all events regardless of weather, finding a tire with excellent all around performance is essential. Adding to the already demanding schedule of track events, each individual must drive his or her car thousands of miles between venues.

The cars (and their tires) will be pushed to the limit over a wide variety of tracks and challenges, from the skidpad tests here at Tire Rack to the road course at Daytona International Speedway to heads-up and bracket format drag races.

As a team full of gearheads, we love to see the parking lot full of performance cars, ranging from home-built specials to Italian exotics. But aside from the fun, we also get to learn a lot about what tires some of the most demanding drivers in the country choose to compete on, and how they stack up.
