Elbrus Wheels: Your Questions Answered

Elbrus I02 with Ice CoatingHere are the most frequently asked questions about Elbrus wheels (Elbrus IO2 shown here).

What is Ice Coating? Ice coating is a special, ultra durable clearcoat that protects the machined finish of the wheels from brake dust, road salt and the hazards of daily driving.

What does this mean to you? The wheels have the shine of a machined aluminum wheel and the easy maintenance of a painted wheel.

Will they fit my car? For that, our handy shop by vehicle feature can provide the answers.

Finally, what does the name Elbrus signify? Elbrus wheels are named for Mount Elbrus, the tallest peak in Europe. Mount Elbrus is one of the famous Seven Summits, which are the tallest peaks on each continent. To scale all of the Seven Summits is like the grand slam of mountain climbing.

Has anyone ever experienced a problem with the lug bolt hole sizing with the Elbrus wheel? They are pretty close tolerance and if slightly off the lug bolt not have enough clearance for insertion

When ordering through tirerack.com for your vehicle, bolt hole sizing and spacing will be taken into account. I have not come across any machining errors where the holes were not machined to the intended spec.

I bent the spacer on a elbrus 105. How do I get another one?
Friday, July 29, 2011 by ben@tirerack

I am guessing that you are talking about the centering ring, which fits into the center bore of the wheel and makes sure it is perfectly centered on the hub.

If you can call with the wheel size and vehicle application we should be able to find the one you need.

I have a 2007 f-150 4x4 crew cab. I run 255-70-17,keeping the stock wheels how much of a bigger tire can I put on this wheel? Thanks

I have the IO5 at 16".
The wheel hubcap's claws broke inside so I doubt they'll be holding on this season. The back says EB-0074CP.
On site it says 74.1mm size, is there any VW caps of this size as replacements? (instead of the elbrus logo ones?)

I am trying to fit Elbrus I06 17" rim to my 08 saab 9-3 turboX. I have been told they will work but likely will need hub rings to avoid vibration at speed A Saab bore should be 65.1mm. I can not find specification for Elbrus wheel either hub bore or offset and if you carry proper hub rings for this application (and if so how much $$)
thank you

So the finish on this does not resemble a hyper silver then I take it?

The centering rings that come with these wheels are not a snug fit and allow the wheel to move around on the hub too much causing vibration.
I have had these balanced more times than I care to admit chasing down this problem.
I plan to buy some aftermarket centering rings that fit more snugly and are located against the hub face (not 10mm down in the wheel like these). Can you tell me the ID of this Elbrus wheel without the centering ring? Is this specified by Elbrus?

I too am in need of the decorative center plugs for the 102s. The tire shop broke 3 out of 4 when changing them out. Where can I get the replacements please

Like thom 2 years ago, I need to know the center bore size. I got these wheels with my used audi a4 and have had all the wheels balanced but i still have wheel wobble issues. I looked behind the wheel and low and behold, no hub centric centering rings.

Recap: What is the center bore size on the Elbrus IO2?

I bought some Elbrus wheels (17s) about 3 years ago. Installed them on my wife's car (2002 Pontiac Grand AM 4 door SE 2.2)She always complaint about vibrations. I worked back then for Harvey Lexus of Grand Rapids. I balance the tires almost weekly and even use to tag team with the Hunter rep with all kinds of adapters to make it go away and nothing work. I balanced the wheels with and w/o the centering rings to no avail. I noticed hat the wheels are discontinued. I just want to know if this is or was a known problem and if there ever was a fix. Please send me the center bore measurements for Elbrus wheels and what size rings I need to use. I will try to go at it again. Thank You for your help.

i bought elbrus i05's of my buddy who drove an 08 audi a4, i drive a 07 passat variant 2.0t. i have had the hardest time finding hubcentric rings for these. i have measured the ID of the wheels at 80mm, and i know the vw hub is 57.1. do you happen to know where i can find these? or is this even going to work?
Monday, November 24, 2014 by ben@tirerack

Is it possible that the wheel might actually take a 79.5mm ring? Those are much more common. We do not have any 80mm rings currently available.
