OEM from MINI..very, very harsh riding and loud.....bubbles started in the treads after about 25,000 which made them louder....
If all RUN-FLATS are like this...NO THANKS!!........replacing with Ultra High Performance All Season....that's what most of the other MINI drivers seem to do with great results......Bridgestones on my 911s. Michelins also with less desirable results....Conti's on the truck.....both have been great.....thought I'd try the spec tire of European sedan racing series....HANKOOK....look for that post shortly.......I would NEVER buy the tires that came on the MINI......never.

I purchased these tires for something that will work as a "Good" all season tire. They have worked awesome all winter (a Calgary winter that is). Very impressed with the handling in the snow, never spun out on any hill that was iced up. Always had traction starting at lights and stop signs. It did hydroplane in 4" deep slush at 50mph but that can be expected. Over all great all around tire for all 4 seasons.
I did find them a little spongy on corners but that could have been due to my car's required air pressure.

A supplemental review of these tires for my Saturn SC1

When these tires were new they had significantly superior deep snow traction compared to today's performance with about half of the tread worn down. I have always found and still maintain these tires have very good ice performance characteristics for an all season tire and to that end I think you'd need a dedicated winter tire to noticeably out do the ComfortTreds. Light fresh snow is still not a problem even on relatively steep hills.

One thing that troubles me is the substantial loss of wet grip once you start breaking in these tires. At 2k miles traveled the performance was great if not excellent. The 100HP Saturn could not spin these tires from a dead stop in wet conditions which was always the case for the factory Firestone FR680 tires. After about 15k miles on the tire I noticed the traction control indicator light coming on. Its not the level the FR680s were even at the FR680's best but it is troubling that with half of the tread present so much wet performance could be lost. The tires are still predictable and stable so its more of a gripe than anything.

The noise and ride quality of this tire is still exemplary. Driving a Sturn with a mostly plastic outer body I feel I have a special insight on the noise levels that just can't be asserted in all metal cars. My Saturn went from being quite noisy traveling at highway speeds to much quieter. I did not use a noise measuring device but can tell you that a cell phone conversation was not possible at 70mph beforehand where now its no problem. These tires are ridiculously noisy on grooved cement and have very odd feel on grooved pavement.

These tires probably will be replace at 50k to 60k which I feel is acceptable considering hard cornering is my favorite thing in the world. This is not a performance oriented tire. Sidewall flex is a part of the game.

I BOUGHT 4 OF THESE TIRES FROM TIRERACK LAST SUMMER AND WAITED UNTIL I HAD ABOUT 10,OOO MILES ON THESE TIRES TO GIVE YOU AN ACCURATE REVIEW. THESE ARE EXCEPTIONALY GREAT TIRES. THEY RIDE MUCH SMOOTHER THAN THE OEM CONTINENTAL TIRES. THEY ARE QUIET AND VITUALLY SHOW VERY LITTLE WEAR WITH 10K MILES. THE HANDLING AND GRIP BOTH DRY AND WET IS SUPERIOR. I DROVE 160 MILES THROUGH THE INTENSE PART OF THE OCTOBER 2011 NORTHEAST (MA-CT-NY)FOOT OF SNOW AND ICE STORM AND NEVER SLIPPED ONCE! EXCELLENT SNOW/ICE TRACTION. THESE TIRES OUT PERFORM ALL MY EXPECTATIONS IN EVERY CATEGORY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TIRE FOR ALL SEASON USE. MY WIFE DRIVES THIS VEHICLE MORE THAN ME AND SHE LOVES THE TIRES. I FEEL CONFIDENT WITH THESE TIRES ON HER CAR. I MISTAKENLY BOUGHT THE NEW KUMHO ECSTA 4X TIRES FOR MY MINI COOPER S FROM TIRERACK AND THEY RIDE NOTICEABLY HARDER THAN THE ENVIGORS, WISH I COULD TRADE THEM. I HAVE BOUGHT MANY TIRES IN MY LIFETIME AND THESE ARE ONE OF THE BEST. THEY HAVE A MODERN AGGRESSIVE LOOKING TREAD PATTERN WHICH IS APPEALING BUT THE TREAD PATTERN PICKS UP SMALL PEBBLES, THAT'S THE ONLY LITTLE ANNOYING DOWNSIDE OF THE TIRE.

This is my first set of all-season tires (past 3 sets have been summer), and these are noisier than all the others, equivalent or worse than a fully worn-out set even when they were brand new. They are even noisier than the tires I've had on my last 2 trucks. Durability and performance-wise they are fine, but I will not buy them again because of the tire noise. My last set was General Exclaim UHP summer tires, so I'm not knocking the brand, it's just the tire model. These have better wet traction and better hydroplaning resistance, but that seems to be the only thing going for them.

April 15, 2012

Recently purchased these tires for my 11' Sonata at the beginning of the winter to replace a set of Yokohama Avid's that were just awful. Right away I noticed a substantial difference in ride comfort, smoothness and noise. We live in Colorado where the weather can change in a matter of minutes. With the first snowfall I just had to test them out on the twisty slick mountain roads and they performed beautifully. Light snow traction was great and deep snow wasn't much worse. They are no dedicated winter tire but for your average driver that doesn't push the limits, these tires are all you need.
I also had them out in a pouring rain storm. Tried to get them to slip but it was next to impossible. To get these tires to fail you in the rain, you'd have to be driving in a way that almost no tire could handle and TRYING to wreck yourself.

Recently, we got caught in a bad snowstorm on the highway. It was perfect timing after the storm started but before the plow trucks could get to it so it was nasty. Whiteout conditions and easily 3 inches of heavy wet slushy snow on the roadway that hadn't been plowed yet. These tires were solid as a rock! My traction control never even had to take over. I felt safe that these tires would hold their own in bad conditions and they did! Highly recommended tire for the casual driver.

As for treadwear, I just inspected my tires after the winter and I see almost no noticeable treadwear. All siping and everything still there. I think these tires will last.
If your looking for all-season flexibility but don't want to sacrifice too much in the snow, these tires will get you around.

April 15, 2012

I bought these tires not doing enough research to realize they were winter tires, so that is bad on me. However, I have driven roughly 40,000 miles on them, and they have held up well, from -30 to 100 degrees farenheit. I first got them in the winter and was able to hold corners at 15-20 mph in 5 inches of snow. Like one of the other reviewers, they easily handle speeds WELL in excess of posted speed limits here in the U.S. I never had traction issues in any conditions, year round. The biggest issue I had with them is the loss in fuel economy while driving conservatively versus the OEM tires that came with the car. The tread wear was probably exacerbated by the fact that my driving is more aggressive than most, and I used the tires in all seasons. I will attest to the fact that the winter weather handling of these tires helped me avoid several collisions on the roadway.

This is an excellent all season tire and would purchase for an SUV or family sedan. However, I purchased this for my Infiniti G35 which was a mistake since I made tire wear a priority over performance. The drive quality of the Infiniti has deteriorated as these, as expected, do not handle "spiritied" driving as well, and I lose confidence around curves. I should have purchased high performance tires since the "fun" factor is now gone from the Infiniti.

Hated the O.E. Dunlap Runflats because they were uncomfortable and jarring as well as noisy. These 960A/S RFTs are so much smoother and very quiet when compared to the dunlaps. Steering effort is less but the car handles just as well. Overall the car is more settled and comfortable, it just feels more refined under all road conditions. If you are going for a more comfortable ride and want all-season performance while staying with a Runflat this is the best tire in the segment.

(I use g-Force T/A KDW-2 for summer tires). The RE970AS are used late fall to spring. These tires are great, low noise and better cold weather grip. Noticed that they get quieter after a short warm up time, (mile or so). Lots of grip with hard driving, predictable hold and can tell when they are about to break loose. I'd recommend these for all season use, (except I'll still use ultra high performance tires for summer). Can't tell about wear, I haven't had them long enough.

Bought this tire to replace the stock Bridgestones that came with my car. Though the tires are marketed as all-season tires, these have not held up well for me in the snow conditions, with the car sliding everytime i braked in snowy conditions. Apart from this, the dry/wet performance of these tires and the grip in the dry and wet is very good. Hydroplaning resistance in heavy rain conditions has been very good and there is a good level of assurance in the rain with these tires. The tires are fairly quiet and the ride confort is good as well. Treadwear has been good and i have about 8/32" left after 15K miles. I will recommend these tires to anyone who wants good tires for dry and wet conditions, but not the snow.

Its always sad when the snow leaves and I have to put the OEM summer tires back on. These winter tires handle so much better than the OEM all seasons. Fortunately, the all seasons are shot so I will be getting some Potenzas RE960s as replacements.
The Blizzaks stick like glue in all conditions including slush, snow and ice.
I will definitely be buying more.

I bought four of these, and I was amazed by the improved handling on the steering wheel after alignment, balancing and installation by ASE certified technicians at a Toyota dealership. So far, these tires have the highest UTQG ratings I can find in the market for my car. Cornering stability, dry traction, and steering responsiveness has been perfect. Low noise on acceleration and very comfortable on speed bumps. I still have to test these tires on various terrains, conditions and seasons. So far, these tires are excellent in doing its feature as expected. Great new tires!

I don't know if you've ever lived in Ankara, Turkey...but the winter season runs from about Nov - Mar...and this year happened to be the worst winter in over 50 years. We had snow on the ground from Dec 25th 2011 all the way until March 2012, which kept falling and accumulating throughout the winter, which at the highest was 2 ft for a sustained amount of time.

These tires were awesome! In snow, ice, slush, all forms of incliment weather you could have during the winter these tires handled great!!! On hills I was able to safely maneuver around the stuck and sliding vehicles with confidence and ease. Never once got stuck in snow or icy conditions and had several people ask what tires these were, as even their snow tires were inadequate for the weather we experienced this winter season.

I dont recommend these tires for dry road conditions because the tread pattern and grip strength does cause the car to handle a bit tighter in turns, and the road noise on dry conditions is a bit overbearing.

I was very impressed by these tires, and they're great for swapping onto a car once the snow starts, wouldn't recommend them for an area that gets small amounts of sporatic snow.

Bought these tires almost two years ago based upon the reviews, surveys and specs on the website. I drive less then 10k miles per year. This tire performs very well. I was skeptical based on the price but i can tell you that thee tires are a great value. The ride is comfortable, quiet and traction is great in dry, wet and light snow. I live upstate new york ( poughkeepsie area) and these tires performed very well. Heavy snow traction is not so great. No all season tire is good in those conditions. My only gripe is with the tire wear. i will probably get a few more more months out of them but will need to replace them before this coming winter to maximize snow traction if needed. Would nonetheless buy these tires again. Yokohama may need to tweek the formula just a touch to improve wear.

SNOW:I had purchased 2 of these tires last season and put them on the front of my FWD car. (For safety reasons follow the directions and install on the rear if you only buy 2.) But I will say the difference was night and day between the front GT Altimax and rear Allseasons with most tread left. I do enjoy playing in the snow with the car and using the ebrake for snow drifts. But with the amount of extra grip the snow tires had up front I could simply turn at speed and the rear allseason tires would slide out. That was great fun but not good for safety as in hard stops the rear would tend to try and swing around as well. The Grip difference between all seasons and snows is remarkable. This season I purchased another two snows and was confident anywhere I went.

DRY:As far as the GeneralTire's dry performance goes they are way to soft and eraser like for warm dry pavement. In slightly hurried starts the tires will peel out at power levels where the all seasons would leave safely. Handeling is completely acceptable for day to day/some spitired turns. But remember they are not performance tires. My car only has 125hp and the tires readily spin.

NOISE: these tires are super quiet! quieter than my all seasons which is remarkable considering how agressive the tread is. In comparison hte Blizaks I've driven before were quieter but the difference is not worth the price increase!

Tires have been great so far, very confidence inspiring in treacherous weather. I drive mostly twisty mountain roads in all conditions, and I have not experienced anything that this tire couldn't handle comfortably (I have AWD also). Wintry conditions are no problem, traction is seldom an issue. The wet traction is phenomenal. Dry cornering is as good as I would hope for from a winter tire, but still a winter tire. Slightly squirmy on straight, dry roads, but very tolerable. I realize that these are not meant for dirt roads, but where I live dirt roads are common and not always snow-covered. When the dirt roads are dry, these have no problems. When they are wet and soft or muddy, I have found it difficult to drive in a straight line. It almost feels like driving on a flat. I've only put 2,500 miles on them in mixed conditions, but they still look brand new with no noticeable tread wear. I look forward to using them for the next few seasons.

I don't know why there are so many mileage discrepencies with this tire. I rotate and balance this tire every 6000 miles and keep about 36 PSI in them and I have over 67000 miles on them with 7/32 tread left on them. They are great in rain or shine. They don't seem to hydroplane. They are not overly noisy or stiff. In the snow they are only so-so. But on ice last winter I had to go up this hill on the way home that was like a skating rink. Semis and other cars were just spinning and I also saw a few other 4 wheel drive vehicles spinning, but my tripletreds just walked around everyone and got me home safely. I will probably replace them next year with the same even though they are quite pricey. Overall a great all season tire.
