Initial Review, 8000 Miles on Tires
November 09, 2010

This is my second set of oversize (225/50-17) tires, but compared to the same-sized Yokohama S4 the Continental DWS has a lot less dry weather grip and sloppy corning manners. The taller sidewall really does not work; perhaps more than just the "soft sidewall", judging from other reports, the OEM 215/50-17 would have been a better choice.

Wet weather performance is better, but the DWS hydroplanes - something the S4s never did until they had 25,000 miles! The change between the S4 (a tire with no wet or snow traction, according to me) was so noticeable I added a larger rear sway bar, which got rid of much of the car's new-found understeer and the low-speed cornering tire squealing. Then I had an alignment, which help a bit, with balance, but there was still no real grip. A couple of months ago I replaced the shocks and springs (A-Spec) and THAT has changed the car a lot, but there is still not a lot of dry cornering grip; severe axle tramp (on moderately-normal starts) in the wet in 2nd gear is now gone.

Originally, driving on DWS tires on dry summer roads was like driving on snow tires in summer - sloppy, mushy, with no cornering grip - but generally predictable - and tire squealing when starting and stopping. Now that it's turned cold (30-50F), however, these tires have changed: it's easy to balance the car (yes, a new suspension helps), steering response is good, turn-in is OK,...everything seems to work: is that sidewall flex or tread compound, or both? And of course, when it's wet the roads are cooler too, which seems to help this tire perform.

The tire is, however, noticeably lighter than the S4; the car accelerates better, and I find myself downshifting a lot less on the highway, when needing to move through traffic.

This is by far the best tire I had on my 06 TSX, There so quiet & I have just rotated them @ 8,500 miles, & they look great. I have had Yokohama & they were terrible.
I would buy this tire again! If you have a TSX I would highly recommend this tire.

The first thing I noticed when I got these tires was the tread pattern. It has a great combination of street vs lug tread design. The only fault I have with this tire is that I think it will only be good for severe weather for only half it's tread life. Otherwise I really love this tire and would buy it again if it is still around the next time I need them.
My comparison is with the original BF Goodrich T/A's which s--ked big time. With he Kumho's bouncing between expansion joints disappeared, turing the steering wheel is finally a joy, and I can actually hear my radio at a normal level. Yes the Kumho have made driving the truck so much fun even the wife is no longer afraid to drive it.
I waited to write this until I experienced every traction situation. For a truck dry traction is extremely good. Taking a spirited corner doesn't inspire white knuckles.
The next traction comments about wet, ice, and snow are based on the bed being empty. In the rain these tire hold the road very well and find pavement very quicly when the need arises. Taking off from a dead start will cause the tires to spin, but let off the gas and they'll bit the road. This is true in snow driving too. The tread pattern shed water quickly making puddles, large and small, seem non-exsistent.
Fresh deep snow is not nearly as challenging as light or packed snow. These tires behave very well in fresh snow. If I mind-my-manors the latter stuff presents no problems while out accelerate everyone. Yes I can get the backend to let loose, but it is very quick to straighten out and not wip side-to-side. I do love the fun things a vehicle can do in the snow. I have yet to push these tires beyound their limits which so far is pretty high. Yes I'm the guy you'd say going to end up in the ditch, but I still haven't found that one with my name on it.
My last comment is about the tires Rev's per mile. It's less the OE tires and therefore your speedo is going to be off.

Great for the first 20,000 miles. No complaints, great tire. I have rotated every 5,000 miles as required; however, tread is quit worn. The life of the tire I would say is about 25,000 miles much less than that of what is advertised. At the price of $200/tire I would think it would have much more life. I was not planning on having to purchase a new set within 2 years.

I have had these tires 3 years and still have alot of tread left; probably about 30% left. I keep the car garaged all the time so it really isn't sitting in the sun. But I still feel that I will get another 10,000 miles out of them. They are starting to show some tiny cracks. I have had many brand tires such as Pirelli, Dunlop & Michelin and I find that I will only buy Kumho's in the future. They clean up nicely and look nice when polished up. Reasonably priced for sure. Nice ride & handling on turns & high speeds.

I just purchased these tires about a week ago and I included a set of Rial rims as part of the upgrade; Tire Rack in South Bend mounted the wheels and installed them. The drive home to Chicago and the weather so far has provided me the opportunity to test the tires in all weather types excpet deep snow. So far, I am very pleased. These tires are a definite improvement over the stock Michelin tires for traction and noise. The Tire Rack did a great job installing everything as well. I am sure I will have the chance to test these in deep snow soon enough and will post a follow up then. As long as these last longer than the Michelins (~35K miles), this was money well spent!

I put this tire on when I couldn't get the Bridgstone Pole Position. I loved the Bridgstone but I think I like this Michelin better. This tire holds the corners better, no role. I live in a valley and when ever I go some place I have to drive over a mountain and around a lot of curves. I rotate the tires about every 4-5 thousand miles and they wear beautifully. I not saying that the Bridgstone is a bad tire, if I could have got the Bridgstone I would have put them on, I got 37,000 miles and they wore great. Anyway I'm very happy with the Michelin Pilot Sport and I will buy them again.

Have had multiple sets of the tires and have loved the dry traction even with a high horsepower FWD setup. My car is turbo and these tires are the only ones out there that can stick with such a skinny tread width. Nothing bad to say about these tires. Have had them through heavy and light snows, and wouldn't recommend the heavy snow unless they are a brand new set of tires.

Initial Review, 2000 Miles on Tires
November 09, 2011

I was looking for a balanced combination of handling, performance and all-season capability. I definitely found it in the Kumho Ecsta ASX.

So far, the tires have exceeded my expectations in almost every area. Dry and wet traction and cornering performance is far superior to the OEM tires with far les road noise and harshness. Wet performance was particularly impressive when a downpour dumped 2-3" of water on the freeway - the Kumhos shrugged the water off with little deflection and absolutely no hydroplaning.

Criticisms? Well, the only one is turn-in performance. The tires just don't turn as crisply as I'd like but, frankly, that's the trade-off I expected with all season tires. If handling was my primary concern, I would have purchased ultra high performance summer rubber. I'll gladly trade a bit of dry pavement handling for the security and comfort these tires provide in all kinds of weather.

And....Tire Rack deserves **kudos** for their efficient and speedy order fulfillment. I ordered tires and rims by phone on Thursday a few minutes after 12 noon and had mounted and balanced tires with new TPS valve stems at my door before 9:30am on Friday....amazing!

BTW, Hondas regularly get slammed for road noise, but I have to believe the OEM tire selection bears the most blame. I've replaced tires on a Honda CR-V (Yokohama all-terrain, all season), Acura TL (Kumho high performance summer) and now a V6 Accord (Kumho ultra high performance all season). In every case, ride comfort and road noise (and handling, too) improved significantly.

A good upgrade from WX50s I had before (they were older than 6 yrs and still had snow tread left). These may be a little bit noisier, but still great. Only used for a trip to Ohio and back so I am still watching tread wear. No deep snow yet to play in but light and/or icy stuff was no problem. Drove at 65+ for 640 miles in the rain on way back from Ohio with superb road holding even during downpours.

This is my 3rd set of tires for this vehicle and I couldn't be happier. With these tires the car continues to drive like new (no unexpexted pulls, vibrations or noises that you may find with a non-original equipment tires). After mounting them I immediately noticed how well they perform in the rain and how quiet they are. I have 125k miles on my car and think about getting a new one from time-to-time but getting the car serviced regularly at the dealer and keeping the original equipment tire on the vehicle keeps this car performing like it did when I drove it off the lot (I.e., I have no need to purchase a new car). If you have a TSX you would be crazy not to get these tires ( a cheaper tire truely does make a difference for the worse), if you don't own a TSX do a little research first, but I still recommend getting these tires.

Replaced the Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S's that were great when they were new, but got unbearably noisier the more they wore. Decided to go with the Continental DWS's after all the reviews from people with the same car here and on the Acura discussion forum, www.acurazine.com

The 1st thing I noticed was the vast improvement in ride comfort and lack of road noise, like no other tire I've ever owned. I feel like I'm driving a new car aqain! First day in the rain yesterday and they didn't hydroplane AT ALL. Although I consider myself a 'spirited' driver, I don't take turns at 90 so I can't complain about soft sidewalls like some others have. I also haven't experienced any flat spotting either. No wonder this tire is a Consumer Reports recommended Ultra High Performance all season tires. I'll update this review after the snow and ice hit soon. But so far at least, LOVE 'EM, LOVE 'EM, LOVE 'EM !

This was like putting tennis shoes on my Acura. I could barely get the tires to spin on a 7% grade hill in San Francisco...in the rain...with a front wheel drive car. There is a little bit more road noise than the stock Turanzas (which felt like cardboard wrapped around the rim), but it handles the bumps so much better. Very responsive, night and day handling and traction. Couldn't be happier.

Initial Review, 52000 Miles on Tires
January 04, 2012

Got about 50,000 miles on these tires over about 4 years. Very good tire overall. I thought they performed very well in snow, as they got me through long drives in two of the worst snowstorms in recent history here in the Philadelphia area. Performed pretty well in rain as well. Lasted a decent amount of time and delivered a smooth and quiet ride.
My only complaint was that towards the end, when I probably still had about 8,000 miles left of wear on them, they developed a bad wobble in the tires. The steering wheel would shimmy back and forth, left to right, at speeds under 30 mph. I had them rebalanced and the alignment checked, but both were fine. For some reason the tires developed this problem late in their life. It was annoying and made for a very unpleasant feel while driving.
I replaced them a bit earlier than I wanted, originally with the Bridgestone Alenza's, and then with the Michelin Primacy MXV4s, and the wobble went away. Beside this problem towards the end of their life, I was happy with them. I would have replaced with the same Cross Terrains, but since they are being discontinued, I chose not to.

I have had three sets of winter tires on our MDX...All purchased at Tire Rack. The first set were Dunlop M3 Grandtrek. They were pretty good but wore quickly. The next set were Pirelli Scorpions. They handled well, were predictable, longer wearing, but very hard to keep balanced. The Blizzaks are the best ones yet. The handling is very secure on the highway. They are Very quiet. The ride is excellent and so is the traction. I hope they are long wearing. Very good tire. Very good on centre feel and no vague winter tire sensation.
